A set of four Victorian silver and parcel-gilt figural saltsJohn Samuel Hunt, London 1854, incuse stamped 'HUNT & ROSKELL LATE STORR & MORTIMER 7219' Modelled as four children in 18th century dress, all holding gilt lined baskets to sell their wares, on grass-effect pedestal bases, inscribed with the monogram 'MTU', with wood inserts, height tallest 18.5cm. (4)Footnotes:These silver and parcel-gilt figural salts were originally designed and modelled by the goldsmith Jean-Valentin Morel (French, 1794-1860). Morel was the son of a Parisian lapidary, and studied in the workshop of the gold box maker Adrien Vachette. He began business on his own account around 1830, later settling in Rue Neuve St Augustin in partnership with the French architect Henri Duponchel. After a lawsuit and the dissolution of the partnership, Morel was barred from working in the Department of the Seine, and moved his business to London. He registered his mark in 1849, and continued to produce the highest quality silver and jewellery. Morel exhibited a set of these four salts at the Great Exhibition of 1851, where they were described in The Official Catalogue as 'Saltcellars representing figures on donkeys with baskets, embossed and chased; and figures holding baskets, modelled and chased.' One contemporary commentator in 'The Crystal Palace and its Contents' illustrated the salts and selected them for special praise: 'The silver salt cellars, by Morel, are very beautiful little affairs, in the Louis Quatorze style. They represent rustic children, quite of the Watteau order, bearing baskets and dancing lightly under their burthens.' For this submission at the Great Exhibition, he was awarded a prestigious Council Medal.This design of salt has been noted with hallmarks ranging from 1855-65 with makers' marks for John Samuel Hunt, Barnards, Garrard and C. & G. All four feet have been pushed in a little from the underside resulting in 4 convex bruises as seen from the top. Some slight rippling to the rim. Hallmark clear and readable. Some surface scratches all over as to be expected. Slight wobble when on a flat surface.

A GEORGE III SILVER OVAL SAUCE TUREENPAUL STORR, LONDON 1797With an armorial finial to the domed cover, twin scroll handles, engraved with a coat of arms and on an oval pedestal foot23.5cm (9 1/4in) long607g (19.55 oz) The armorial for the Earldom of Eglinton in the Peerage of Scotland. The ancestral seat was Eglinton Castle in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire. The date of assay (1797) would suggest that the engraving refers to Colonel Hugh MONTGOMERIE (formerly SETON) (1739-1819) KT and 12th Earl of Eglinton, who succeeded his third cousin Archibald MONTGOMERIE (1726-1796) 11th Earl in 1796. He was the son of Colonel Alexander SETON (1719-1783) of Colysfield by Lillias MONTGOMERIE (1715-1783) daughter of Robert MONTGOMERIE Baronet Skelmollie. He joined the army in 1756 and served in the American war as captain in the 78th foot and afterwards as captain in the first royals. In 1772 the 12th earl had married Eleanora HAMILTON (1750-1817) daughter of Robert HAMILTON by Jean MITCHELL. He was earlier an MP for Ayrshire (1780-1796) and later Scottish representative of peers in the House of Lord. Blazon: quarterly of four - 1,4: grand quarters counter quartered one and four: azure, three fleurs de lis or (Montgomerie); two and three: gules, three annulets or stoned azure (Eglinton) all within a bordure or charged with a double tressure flory-counterflory. 2,3: grand quarters counter quartered one and four: or, three crescents within a double tressure flory-counterflory gules (Seton); two and three: azure, three garbs or (Buchan), overall an escutcheon per pale gules and azure, the dexter charged with a sword in pale proper, pommelled and hilted or, supporting an imperial crown, the sinister charged with a star of twelve points argent, all within a double tressure flory-counterflory or. While hunting, their eldest son, Thomas (1310–1369), saved Edward III from being attacked by a wild boar and was duly knighted with the boar's head incorporated into the Ingilby family crest. He was to act as High Sheriff of Cornwall and Deputy Warden of the Stannaries in 1851, being created the 1st Baronet in 1866. His eldest son William predeceased him in 1847 and so he was succeeded as Baronet by his second son Frederick.The present soup-tureen is possibly from, or a copy after one from, an extensive service originally made by Paul Storr in 1794 for John Pratt, 2nd Earl and later 1st Marquess of Camden (1759-1840). The service very probably accompanied him during his tenure as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.The tureen fully marked on foot and further part marked on cover bezel with lion passant, duty mark and date letter in one place and maker's mark in another. There is some wear to the marks but in general they are still clear. The cover is engraved 'No 2' and stamped with two dots. The body is stamped with two dots. The liner is stamped '3'. There is overall surface scratching and wear. There is a patch under the engraved coat-of-arms on one side of the body and under the engraved crest on the cover. The handle is pushed down into the cover. The liner is somewhat ill fitting.

A fine Victorian gold turquoise and diamond snake necklace with articulated gold snake-link body, the snake's head with diamond eyes and turquoise cabochons, suspending a gold and turquoise heart shape pendant drop with forget-me-not motif and locket compartment to the reverse containing plaited hair, the head forming a concealed clasp, length 40cm. It has been in the same family for at least three generations. Box in very good condition. The necklace weighs approximately 26.1 grams.
