A fine early 18th Century achievement of arms with the quarterly arms of Sandys with Tipping quarterly in pretence, beneath the crest of Sandys and a gentleman’s helmgouache, watercolour and gilt on vellum33cm x 25cm Provenance: Ombersley Court, Worcestershire Samuel Sandys, MP for Worcester from 1718-43, married in 1725 Letitia Tipping, co-heir with her sister to the baronetcy of Tipping of Wheatfield. In 1743 he was created Baron Sandys of Ombersley and in 1756-57 was Speaker of the House of Lords. The painting was thus made between his marriage in 1725 and his elevation to the peerage in 1743, when the arms would have changed.

Origin The Mondriaan House via Else Valk. The work was also featured in the program Tussen Kunst & Kitsch in 2004. Including various documentation and correspondence and a photo of the opening of the Hendrik Valk exhibition in 1988 in the Mondriaanhuis in Winterswijk. The photo shows the work with Pierre Janssen.
