THE SMITHS - HEAVEN KNOWS I'M MISERABLE NOW/BIGMOUTH - 7" PACKAGE WITH PRESS RELEASES. From the estate of BBC Radio manager Don George is this superb bundle of 5 x 7" with promotional material. The lot includes 4 x original UK copies Of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now (RT 156) with one copy with blank B side labels (as these would have been sent prior to the release date they may not have all been printed). Likely unplayed, there are a couple of light storage marks to the records with one copy a little 'dished'. Along with these are 2 x press releases with 'Scott Piering MUsic Industry Media Services' card and 'For the urgent attention of Don George' on a post-it note... Also with an original UK stock p/s copy of Bigmouth Strikes Again (RT 192 - likely unplayed with 'Ferret 'N' Spanner' promo sticker on the sleeve). All housed in a brown paper envelope staing 'Don George Top Forty Show'.

‡A RARE 80 BORE CASED GLOBE RESERVOIR AIRGUN BY H.W.MORTIMER & CO., GUNMAKER TO HIS MAJESTY, CIRCA 1799-1806 with take-down barrel formed in two stages, the forward section round, sighted, fitting within the rear portion, sleeved in rifled brass and secured by a vertical bolt ahead of the trigger-guard, octagonal breech fitted with back-sight of two folding leaves, inscribed 'Gunmaker to his Majesty' on a gold scroll (rubbed), and inlaid with a gold line, finely engraved tang decorated with flowers and trophies-of-arms, bevelled lock signed on a gold scroll, engraved with trophies-of arms beneath and on the tail, fitted with dummy flintlock cock decorated en suite, highly figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, the butt with raised cheek-piece, finely engraved iron mounts comprising trigger-guard and butt-plate each decorated with a trophy-of-arms, the former extending to a ring-moulding decorated with foliage and forming the threaded aperture for the globe reservoir, vacant silver shield-shaped escutcheon, engraved silver fore-end cap decorated with a sunburst, silver barrel bolt escutcheons, a pair of iron ramrod-pipes, and original brass-and iron-tipped ramrod: in its original wedge-shaped fitted mahogany case lined in green baize (lining with expert restorations), the lid with flush-fitting brass carrying handle on the outside, complete with accessories including two reservoirs, pump struck with the maker's mark for Ezekiel Baker on the handle, bullet mould and spanner 88.5 cm; 34 7/8 in barrel Provenance Christie's, London: 1990, lot 139 Literature H. A German Cartridge Box (Patron), And An Italian Combined Priming-Flask, Wheel-Lock Spanner And Turnscrew Early 17th CenturyThe first with wooden body drilled for five cartridges and almost entirely covered in steel sheet etched on the front with a circular medallion containing a profile woman's head in contemporary costume against a scrollwork and granular ground involving four fleur-de-lys, and bordered by scrolling flowering foliage against a granular ground, suspension loop at the rear, and hinged cover etched with a circular medallion containing a helmeted profile head against a scrollwork ground, and with spring button catch (some wear overall, holed in two places); the second of steel, with tapering baluster body (minor hole) drawn-out to form a turnscrew at the base, and horizontal spanner for spindles of two sizes, both chiselled in low relief with scrolling foliage against a hatched ground, plain nozzle with roped upper edge and shell-shaped cut-off acting against an external spring, and roped rotating ring carrying a ring for suspension (probably later, some rust patination overall) (2)13.5 cm. high, the second 15.5 cm.
