Sarah Hills (Spanner in the works) Madame de Pompadour, 2025 Oil on paper (varnished) Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Sarah Hills' work references the notion that the places we have lived and experienced in the past exist within us and can impact how we perceive the elusive nature and progress of time. From the archives of memory certain cherished objects, quotidian motifs and borrowed and appropriated images are reimagined to create charged psychological spaces that suggest unexpected narratives and reflect a disorientating search for meaning. At times deeply personal, the work also seeks to find a universal language and meaning through metaphor and humour. The imagery of voids and empty spaces, suggests transitional moments and inevitably leads to thoughts of one's own departure.   Education 2023 MA Fine Art City and Guilds of London 2019 Heatherleys Portrait Diploma 1984 BA Fine Art WSCAD   Group Exhibitions 2025 Found|land Morley Gallery 2024 Residency, Pouch Cove Newfoundland Art Gemini London Lighthouse gallery '108' Art Hub Studios Pollen Circle Kindred 2023 Adjacent Colours D-Contemporary, Grafton St MA final show C&G Small Worlds, The Graduate Gallery 2022 Meet Me Halfway. A well known historic rally car, built by Kevin Savage - this rare 123GT Coupé is beautifully presented. In 1956, Volvo launched their 120-Series (Amazon) to much acclaim and it was to become one of their most successful, remaining in production until 1970. Starting with the 121 and 122 models, the Amazon soon established itself as a comfortable, reliable and superbly well built car which also introduced new levels of safety equipment, still very much a novelty in the mid-1950s! Understated but beautifully proportioned, the Amazon was designed by Jan Wilsgaard who openly admitted his inspiration came from American cars of the period such as the Chrysler New Yorker and the Chrysler 300C Hardtop Coupé, both of which it closely resembles although in a restrained, Scandinavian sort of way. Immensely rugged and well engineered, many Amazons are still in daily use and have over recent years become popular on the historic rally scene, hardly surprising when you think that stage rallying is part of Volvo’s DNA.Pick of the bunch was undoubtedly the 123GT which was only made between August 1966 and August 1968. Designed to be the sportiest model, the two-door 123GT was powered by the high-compression B18D four-cylinder unit from the P1800 with high-profile cams and revised breathing, resulting in 115bhp compared to the 85bhp of the standard model which, when allied to an all-synchro, 4-speed overdrive gearbox, enabled a top speed of 115mph. Other 123GT features included uprated shock absorbers, special wheel trims, front fog lamps, a dash-top mounted rev counter, reclining seats and an elegant 3-spoke steering wheel. Exact production figures are uncertain but the best estimate seems to be around 1,500 examples with less than 70 believed to still be on the road in the UK.On offer here is a very well presented 123GT dating from 1968 and originally supplied by Worthing-based ‘Rudd’s of Southampton’, famous for their Ruddspeed conversions and sales agents for Volvo, Alfa Romeo and Austin-Healey.Our vendor had always admired Volvo’s rugged Amazon and over the years, they had built a reputation within British club rallying for reliability and always getting to the end, no matter how tough the conditions. He was keen on Classic Regularity rallying and decide that an Amazon would be ideal, with the 123GT being top of the list. Home-market, right-hand drive 123GTs are rare things and he searched for some time before eventually finding the right one through the Owner’s Club.OCR 169F had spent its entire life as a well cared for road car and would obviously have to be converted for a competitive life. Kevin Savage is a name well known in club rally circles in the UK, specifically today for classic rallying, his company KSS Motorsport specialising in rally preparation with Amazons being their model of choice. Having met him on Le Jog and other events, our vendor commissioned KSS to build a car to their specification for classic rallying, which is pretty well what we have today, as various factors have prevented this superb Volvo from being used as planned. Other commitments meant that the scheduled Le Jog in 2023 could not happen, the 2024 event was postponed and our vendor has decided that he will be fully occupied with another project in 2025. The nett result is that this barely used car, which is essentially just run in and fresh from restoration, is ready for someone else to enjoy and at a very sensible estimate.UK rally cars tend to come up for sale at the end of a hard season and in need of substantial work before their next outing but this is different. It’s beautifully presented, well engineered, correctly equipped and properly set-up, needing only a ‘spanner check’ before you submit those entry forms. With Paris-Peking also running this year, OCR could indeed be a ready-made contender! The car is supplied with a substantial history file containing all the correspondence and detailed invoicing from the recent build as well as invoices from previous owners back to the early 1990s. We invite and encourage your inspection of this classic Volvo at our Race Retro Sale.Specification Make: VOLVO Model: AMAZON 123 GT Year: 1968 Chassis Number: 133352P303151 Registration Number: OCR 169F Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 509

A beautifully prepared example of the earliest Morris Minor model currently racing, with Goodwood provenance and welcome anywhere. The ubiquitous Morris Minor arrived in September 1948 as the 918cc side-vale powered ‘Series MM’ and was replaced by a restyled car in September 1950. They have become known by Minor enthusiasts as the ‘Low Light’ and ‘High Light’ respectively.Originally supplied by W Watson and Co, Liverpool in July 1949 as a 'Low Light', this well known Goodwood participant is offered fresh to market by its fastidious owner after it being in his care for the past 12 years, during which time its long standing employment as an historic race car, some 30 years to date, has been continued and enjoyed to the maximum.Well known within the world of Historic Motorsport, SSK 888 is probably best know to the public through its exploits at the Goodwood Revival where it’s been invited five times and raced in the St Marys Trophy, in 2008 driven by the owner and Brian Redman, in 2014 shared with Tony Jardine, in 2017 and 2019 with Rauno Aaltonon and most recently our vendor shared the car with Richard (Dickie) Attwood in the 2021 St Mary's Trophy. Four outings in the Donington Historic yielded a seventh overall in 2019 and the car finished a splendid fourth overall in the 2022 Sopwith Cup at the Goodwood Members Meeting. However, whilst Goodwood has possibly been its pinnacle, it has also been a regular contender in HRDC Touring Greats, the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy and All Stars Series, BARC Oldies but Goldies, the Classic Saloon Car Championship and more besides and with the St Marys Trophy on the running order once again at this years Goodwood Revival there is the possibility of a further appearance at one of the most prestigious motorsport events ever conceived. The list of this venerable Minor's many Class Wins and podiums is too long to cover here and a substantial amount of further information about the car's decades of motor racing history is contained in the car’s history file which can be inspected at our Documents Desk at Race Retro or can be emailed to interested parties.Similarly, the car’s mechanical specification and developments over the years are listed on several pages and can be forwarded to potential buyers.Key Info;Car completely rebuilt in 2008 by IK Classics2017/2022 New full-race 1,293cc engine. Lot 530

Very rare - possibly unique - within UK Club motorsport, this well-prepared XJ-SC has the added benefit of being road-registered and is offered without Reserve. Only 1,130 examples of the six-cylinder XJ-SC were built and we can’t recall ever having seen one converted to a race car, certainly at UK club level and this striking car certainly looks the part. It was originally built to be eligible for the Standard 'Class A' of the popular Jaguar Enthusiast Club GT Championship, usually run over 12 rounds across six weekends of the season at some of the UK’s top circuits including Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Donington Park. It would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to the grids at a number of other UK Championships and being road-registered, opens up the possibility of entry to hill climbs, sprints, road rallies and even the occasional track day.In our vendor’s words, 'A bit over two years ago, a race-winning Jaguar XJ-S race preparer (JEC Champion, Colin Philpott of Powerbell Services) fitted new race suspension bushes, custom roll cage, outboard rear discs, a Topline automatic fire system, fabricated fuel tank, new Schroth Profi II ASM race harnesses worth about £900 plus all the other FIA regulation safety requirements. He then lightened the car by removing the air-conditioning, carpets and noise padding, fabricated lightweight aluminium door and interior panels, fitted twin specially commissioned new Corbeau Sprint Excel race seats worth £1,900, a period Momo removable steering wheel, appropriate period aluminium wheels and much more'.External modifications to the top lip of the boot lid as well as the bespoke slimline bumpers front and rear give the car a more pleasing outline. Our vendor feels it’s a little reminiscent of some of the early design studies by Malcolm Sayer, Jaguar’s legendary aerodynamicist and designer of the C, D and E-Types and who was responsible for the initial work on the XJ27 (XJ-S) before his untimely passing at age 53. His sleek low-nose style didn’t survive as a result of US headlight and 'fender' requirements and Sir William Lyons’ own preferences. The car presents in a Ecurie Ecosse blue paint scheme with the roundels and stripes as might have been seen in period on a D-Type, enhanced by a new navy blue soft top (£2,200) and black 5-spoke alloys. There are one or two areas where there has been a paint reaction (see images) and the original interior is available if required but is in France so a courier would be required. The appropriate registration number, C7 XSC, will remain with the car.Our vendor unfortunately sustained a long-term leg injury a week before the finished car was delivered, so this good looking Jaguar has never been raced. This is a super opportunity to enter the world of Jaguar Club Racing in a rare - possibly unique - road-registered racer that, apart from a spanner check, looks ready to go and offered without Reserve could be remarkable value.Specification Make: JAGUAR Model: XJ-SC Year: 1987 Chassis Number: SAJJNACC7CA141978 Registration Number: C7 XSC Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 9DPAMA116185 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHDClick here for more details and images
