Thea von Harbou: 'Metropolis', London, Reader's Library, September 1927, 1st edition, 4th printing, 250pp, small 8vo, original publisher's burgundy cloth, gilt lettered and decorated, pictorial dust wrapper (slightly worn, some chips and small part losses, but else generally complete and without restoration). Verso of title page states that the first edition, first print run was 100,000 copies in February 1927, followed by three print runs of 50,000 copies each in March, May and September 1927 respectively, this being a September 1927 4th printing copy, with 'Metropolis' mentioned in the list of Readers Library books at front and on rear flap of dust jacket. Landmark Science-Fiction and Fantasy story set in 2026 in a technologically advanced city, sustained by the existence of an underground society of labourers. The pictorial dust wrapper by Aubrey Hammond depicts a classic green robot figure against expressionist skyscrapers with the blurb "the book sensation of Europe". Written in conjunction with the film directed by Von Harbou's husband Fritz Lang. The dust jacket was designed by Aubrey Hammond who gained notoriety for his London Underground posters.

Rote Original-Broschur mit Rücken- und Deckeltitel (die losen Deckel mit Tesa geklebt, Deckel etwas geblichen, Hinterdeckel mit kleinem Papierabriss, etwas berieben).Archiv Sohm, Nr. 197 (mit Abbildung). - Original-Dokumentation zu dem legendären Happening europäischer Intermedia-Künstler, zu denen neben Joseph Beuys auch Bazon Brock, Charlotte Moorman, Nam Jun Paik, Eckart Rahn, Tomas Schmit und Wolf Vostell gehörten. - Während der Aktion trat Nam June Paik erstmals mit seinem "Robot K 567" in Europa auf. - Das Mehlsäckchen bezieht sich auf Wolf Vostells "20 erinnerungen an meine 24 STUNDEN in wuppertal", die mit der Aufforderung "beschäftigen sie sich 24 stunden mit mehl" enden. Das Säckchen liegt in einer durch etwa 200 Blatt (etwa die Hälfte des gesamten Büchleins) reichende Ausstanzung. - Mit Texten der beteiligten Künstler und von Rolf Jährling, die Photos stammen von Ute Klophaus. - Innen gut erhalten.

Original-Broschur in neuem Schuber (leicht fleckig).Erste Ausgabe. - Ein hochwirksamer Sprengstoff entgleitet den Händen des Erfinders Prokop und wird zu einem entsetzlichen Zerstörungsmittel. Vorausahnend und warnend hat Capek hier bereits im Jahr 1924 die Geschichte der Atombombe vorweg genommen. Ohne Zweifel sollte der Roman als "Atomutopie" verstanden werden. Ähnlich visonär und wegweisend wie sein 1920 veröffentlichtes Drama "R.U.R.", in dem erstmals das Wort "Robot" verwendet wurde. - Unbeschnitten. - Leicht gebräunt, Titel mit gelöschtem Besitzeintrag.
