STRAVINSKY IGOR: (1882-1971) Russian composer, conductor and pianist. A.L.S., I Stravinsky, to one side of a plain Carte Postale, Carantec (Brittany), 18th June 1920, to Henri Prunieres, in French. Stravinsky informs his correspondent that he is in Carantec and working on a piece in memory of Debussy that he had promised to Prunieres, hoping that he is not too late and commenting 'Cette piece pour un ensemble d'instruments, je la reduirai au piano et vous l'enverrai sitot faite' (Translation: 'This piece is for an ensemble of instruments, I will reduce it to the piano and send it to you as soon as it is done'). Immediately after his signature Stravinsky adds the words 'toujours en retard et qui manque tous ses rendezvous' (Translation: 'always late and missing all his appointments'). Hand addressed by the composer to the verso and again signed ('I Stravinsky') by him in the return address panel. About EXHenri Prunieres (1886-1942) French musicologist, founder of the monthly musical periodical La Revue musicale in 1920. Claude Debussy (1862-1918) French composer whose music was of particular importance to Les Apaches, a group of musicians, writers and artists of which Stravinsky became a member in 1910.Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments was written as a memorial for Debussy in 1920.

VERLAINE PAUL: (1844-1896) French poet. A.L.S., with his initials PV, one page (with a postscript to the upper third of the second page), 12mo, n.p., n.d. ('La Toussaint'; All Saints' Day), to Paterne Berrichon, in French. Verlain urges Berrichon to pay attention to the pagination of a book, remarking 'Qu'au moins ca commence par l'ouverture et finisse par Morale en raccourci. D'ailleurs je m'en fie absolument a vous pour tout, ordre et gout' (Translation: 'That at least it starts with the opening and ends with Morale in short. Besides, I absolutely rely on you for everything, order and taste') and continues to state 'Je veux faire des chansons, mais je crains que le premier essai ci-joint ne soit encore des vers. Qu'en dites vous? Le sonnet sur Amours irait peut-etre a Valere Gille?....... Trouvez moi donc autre chose que “caresses” au 5 couplet de la chanson C'est si fade!' (Translation: 'I want to make songs, but I'm afraid the attached first essay is still verses. What do you think? The sonnet on Love would perhaps go to Valere Gille?.......So find me something other than “caresses” in the 5th verse of the song. It's so bland!). In a postscript to the second page Verlaine writes 'On pourrait aussi parler a K[istemaeckers] d'un bouquin mien qui s'appellerait quelque chose comme "le mie prigione" illustre par “moi”. Enfin d'Invectives et de peut etre l'ultime bouquin.....' (Translation: 'We could also talk to K[istemaeckers] about a book of mine called something like “le mie prigione” illustrated by “me”. Finally Invectives and perhaps the ultimate book….'). With blank integral leaf. A letter of good content and association. VGPaterne Berrichon (1855-1922) Pierre-Eugene Dufour. French poet, painter, sculptor and designer, the brother-in-law and publisher of Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891) French poet who had a sometimes-violent romantic relationship with Verlaine. Valere Gille (1867-1950) Belgian poet associated with the periodical La Jeune Belgique.Henry Kistemaeckers (1851-1934) Belgian publisher and father of the playwright Henry Kistemaeckers (1872-1938).

This copy is an unknown variant in boards (both known deluxe variants have a different title page), possibly a contemporary binding, though not as issued by the publisher according Le Coultre. *In le Coultre version D, that copy is not cord-bound but w. raffia, but many other deluxe nos. of the periodical that were cord-bound are mentioned, identical to this copy, indicating there might have been an alternate binding proces altogether, as often happened to left-over stock.

Contains the first publication of one the most bizarre, decadent stories in Dutch literature. Jacob Israël de Haan 'Nerveuze vertellingen: Over de ervaringen van Hélénus Marie Golesco' in which the protagonist rapes Jezus at Satan's order: 'De Duivel boog zijn mond op mijn mond... hij kuste mij, en hij noemde mij 'lieveling'. Also contains other short prose by De Haan and an article praising his very controversial Pijpelijntjes (1904), the first gay novel in Dutch literature. And articles on Jan Sluyters, 'De emancipatie der vrouw en de sociale revolutie', 'De huidige Anarchistische beweging in Rusland', Cesare Lombroso 'Hoe ik spiritist werd', and full page plates after Rotgans, Rops (probably the first Dutch Rops reproduction), Sluyters a.o. Includes the original collage with the 'Yves Klein-blue' square on black paper. Cover shows age toning, light creasing along spine, interior very good.

Compilation of the table of contents of all issues of Radical Software, the only periodical devoted exclusively to independent video and video art in the early 1970s. Initiated in the New York video community by Beryl Korot, Phyllis Gershuny and Ira Schneider, published by Raindance Foundation. This historic overview was released in conjunction with the exhibition at the Kölnischer Kunstverein and the Van Abbemuseum. Softcover, 31 x 22.5 cm, 32 pp. This issue of Stephen Willats' seminal periodical features an assembling of artists' contributions, including an original work by Anish Kapoor on the last page. It consists of a mounted plastic beetle (3 x 1 cm), scattered with bright blue dye. Below the beetle is a short text by Kapoor stating 'I once saw an insect in a pile of colour, it seemed to me that this was almost a work'. Other contributions by Jenny Holzer, Glenys Johnson ('Agent Orange', folded photocopy collage with neon orange spray paint), Sue Arrowsmith, Stephen Willats, Tony Cragg, Kate Blacker, Jean-Luc Vilmouth, Tony Bevan, David Evans, Glenys Johnson, Bill Woodrow and Sam Burford.
