British 1907 Pattern Bayonet by Wilkinson, housed in its original leather and steel mounted scabbard. Various acceptance stamps to the blade. Accompanied by a cut down Imperial German M98/05 “Butcher” bayonet, WW2 British Martindale 1945 dated Machete in 1942 dated leather sheath and a leather scabbard for the American P17 bayonet. WW2 German K98 Bayonet, with bakelite two piece grips (reverse grip cracked), waffenampt stamp to the pommel. Housed in black painted 1938 dated scabbard. Blued blade with fuller to back edge, blade stamped “8912 b” to one side and “43 crs” to the other. Accompanied by a 1943 dated British jungle Machete in rubberised scabbard and a Type 1 AK-47 bayonet in its scabbard. (3 items)
WW2 USMC Hospital Bolo Knife, two piece wooden slab grips secured by four brass studs, machete style blade stamped “USMC BRIDDELL”. Housed in its stitched leather scabbard with brass top and belt attachment to the reverse, scabbard stamped “USMC GOVT 44”. Accompanied by another brown leather scabbard. All appear to be un-issued. A rare, possibly unknown, 19th century photograph of Cannibal Tom, depicting the famed creophagous tribesman bearing a blowpipe in his right hand and machete in his left, dressed in a loin cloth before a foliate background, 8 x 6in. (20.3 x 15.3cm.); plus another smaller image of three Samoan natives and three views of the river Avon, New Zealand verso, all pasted to card. (3)
A late 19th Century Brazilian hunting knife, 40cm heavy clipped back blade with spear point, partially stamped XXXXXX & GADET PELOTAS, white metal hilt with two-piece riveted ivory grips, contained in its white metal mounted leather scabbard, chape lacking, blade patinated and old repair to guard, together with an elongated machete by LUCKHAUS & GUNTHER and stamped LA CATALANA, 70.5cm blade, white metal hilt with eagle's head pommel and chequered two-piece wooden grips, contained in its white metal mounted tooled leather scabbard. (2) The Company Scholberg & Gadet of Pelotas merged with Leopold Joucla in the mid 1870's to form Scholberg, Joucla & Silva and Alexander Gadet, was proprietor of this partnership from 1882 until his death in 1894, dating the first knife in this lot to circa 1875.
