Antoinette Holland (1921 - 2011 Dutch). Flowers in Glass Jar, oil on canvas, signed 1989, framed. 41 x 51cm. Notes Antoinette Holland Haggenburg was born in Arnhem, Holland, she was the second of thirteen brothers and sisters. Her father was the headmaster of the local school. Antoinette began painting at the age of nine, inspired by her grandfather who was also an artist. She spent many hours painting and drawing with her grandfather, he was her first teacher. Painting was Antoinette's passion, during her life, she painted more than a thousand oil paintings. 1938 - 1943 Academy of Art and Design, Arnhem, Holland 1947 Antoinette travelled to England to learn English and then on to South Africa 1957 Married Alexander Holland and moved to Tunbridge Wells 1959 Birth of daughter Rosalind 1965 - 1973 Attended art classes at the Adult Education Centre, Tunbridge Wells. A first period Worcester miniature saucer, blue and white, diameter 1.75 ins, a Crown Staffordshire miniature lidded ginger jar and a Spode Copelands China miniature scenery patterned mug. CONDITION REPORT: The miniature Worcester saucer is in good order as is the Spode miniature scenery patterned mug. The ginger jar base is in good condition, however the lid has been broken and the top reglued. It looks to have been in two pieces. The join is visible on close inspection.
A Chinese lidded vessel, with character marks, and figures and with four other lidded vessels. CONDITION REPORT: The large black lidded ginger jar is in good order with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. The cylindrical lidded jar with the character marks has a chip to the underside edge of the lid. There is a small chip to the outer top edge of the lid to the right hand side and the gilding is generally rubbed. The base of the piece is in good condition other than slight rubbing to the character marks. The two large polychrome ginger jars are in generally good condition with only minor scuffs and marks as one would expect. The lidded jar with the handle to the lid is in good condition with only minor rubbing to the gilding.
