Due delle impugnature sono state rincollate, piccola crepa che si dipana dall’orlo. Altezza 25 cm, diametro orlo 12 cm - China, Ming dynasty (1368-1644) Earthenware with five ring-shaped handles on the shoulder and decorated with a lotus flower and leaves motif in relief. Two of the handles were reattached, a small crack stretches from the rim. Height 9.84 in., diameter at rim 4.72 in. € 300

TRE GRANDI “GIARE DA ZENZERO” ESAGONALI Cina, fornaci di Shiwan (Guangdong), XVIII-XX secolo - THREE LARGE HEXAGONAL “GINGER JARS” Grès grezzo prodotto e decorato a stampo con invetriatura spessa e lucida. Altezza 15 cm circa Fabbricate in gran quantità nelle fornaci nelle vicinanze di Canton (Guangzhou), questa tipologia di giare era destinata alla conservazione non soltanto dello zenzero ma anche di molti altri alimenti, come le spezie, il riso, le verdure in salamoia. Pur essendo prodotti di massa, venivano tutte abbellite con decorazioni impresse a stampo e invetriate, prima di essere stipate nei forni, accatastate l'una sull'altra. I soggetti possono essere molteplici, sui piccoli pannelli si riconoscono paesaggi con pagode e padiglioni, fiori e frutti, poesie e motti, animali. Le decorazioni sono ricoperte di un'invetriatura spessa e vetrosa, nelle tonalità del verde, che vira al rosso se durante la cottura si è creata accidentalmente un'atmosfera povera d'ossigeno. Le giare erano sigillate con tappi in sughero, talora anche con coperchi in ceramica. - China, Shiwan kilns (Guangdong), 18th-20th Century In rough stoneware produced and decorated in the mould with thick, glossy glaze. Height 5.90 in. approximately Fabricated in large quantities in the kilns near Canton (Guangzhou), this type of jar was used to preserve not only ginger, but also many other foodstuffs, like spices, rise, and pickled vegetables. Although mass produced, they were embellished with moulded decorations under the glaze. There are various patterns moulded on the small panels, landscapes with pagodas and pavilions, flowers and fruit, poetry and adages, animals. The decorations are covered with a thick and glassy glaze in the shades of green, which may turn red when fired accidentally in a reducing atmosphere. The jars were sealed with cork stoppers, or sometimes with ceramic lids. € 250

Colorazione molto chiara del turchese, con poche venature visibili soprattutto sul verso. Base a due piani in legno intarsiato di filo d’argento. Scheggiatura di una foglia laterale. 12,3 x 7 x 4,5 cm (base incollata) Un graticcio sostiene una pianta di zucca con fiori e piccoli frutti, che si alza fin alla spalla del vasetto. Sul coperchio, lavorato in tuttotondo, la pianta ha prodotto una zucca già matura. Sulla spalla del vaso sta tubando una coppia di colombi. La zucca è un frutto propizio, associato alla fertilità. La coppia di colombi rappresenta fedeltà, fertilità e longevità. - Decoration in high relief and in the round, which includes the lid. Very light-coloured turquoise, with few visible veins mainly at the back. Twolevel wooden base, inlaid in silver thread. Lateral leaf is chipped. 4.84 x 2.75 x 1.77 in. (glued base) A trellis supports a pumpkin plant with flowers and small fruits, which rises up to the shoulder of the jar. On the lid, worked in the round, the plant has produced a pumpkin that is already ripe. On the shoulder of the vessel, a pair of doves are cooing. Pumpkins are an auspicious fruit, associated with fertility. The pair of doves represent fidelity, fertility and longevity. € 1000

VASO CON SCENA DI LOTTA TRA UOMO E TIGRE IN MONTAGNA, SCOLPITA IN TURCHESE Cina, dinastia Qing, XVIII secolo - A VASE WITH SCENE OF STRUGGLE BETWEEN MAN AND TIGER IN THE MOUNTAINS, CARVED IN TURQUOISE La decorazione in altorilievo e a traforo comprende anche il coperchio. Intaglio molto fine e raffinato. Le venature nere sono sapientemente nascoste in secondo piano. Base a due piani in legno intarsiato di filo d’argento. Una foglia sopra la spalla del vasetto è scheggiata. 12 x 7 x 6,5 cm (base inclusa) Da un lato è raffigurata una scena drammatica in pieno svolgimento: un cacciatore, con un piede già tra le fauci della tigre, sta sollevando le braccia per colpirla con tutte le sue forze. La composizione dinamica - creata da un lato dal salto della tigre, dall'altro dallo scatto dell'uomo che si sta lanciando giù da una roccia con i vestiti svolazzanti - è collocata in un paesaggio montuoso. I rami di un pino sovrastano il coperchio e giungono anche dall'altro lato del vaso, dove un rifugio di alta montagna attende il viandante. Al centro del coperchio della scatola è impressa una peonia. Gli angoli sono evidenziati da costolature. Il vasetto è decorato con un fregio di fiori di loto. Invetriatura leggermente consunta, alcune piccole crepe alla base della scatola. diametro 8,8 e 5,8 cm - South-east Chine (Fujian?), Song or Yuan dynasty, 13th-14th century White porcelain and light grey stoneware produced and decorated in a mould; the glazing ends over the base. There is a peony moulded in the centre of the box cover. The corners are sharpened by ribs. The jar is decorated with a frieze of lotus flowers.
