ENSA: An unusual 4to album compiled by ENSA member Frank Raymond containing over 1000 signatures by various actors, actresses and entertainers who performed with the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) during World War II, including Lilian Braithwaite, Victoria Hopper, Ella Retford, Phyllis Neilson-Terry, Daniel Melsa, Charles Coborn, Eric Winstone, Billy Milton, Peter Brough, Arthur Prince, George Robey, York Bowen, Richard Murdoch and many others. The vast majority of signatures appear in mutiples (many duplicates) on manuscript paper neatly annotated in red ink by Raymond with the place and date of the ENSA performances, most at hospitals between 1940-45. The album also includes various signed photographs (8 x 10 and smaller) lightly laid down at the corners. With decorative paper front cover. Lacking the back cover and spine, some of the binding loose. Some light overall age wear, G ENSA was an organisation set up in 1939 by Basil Dean and Leslie Henson to provide entertainment for British Armed forces personnel during World War II.

Lot 86

A well engineered 5 inch LNER Class J39 0-6-0 tender locomotive, No 1448, built by the late Mr E D Hasberry to the Martin Evans drawings. The J 39s appeared in 1926 and were mainly used for goods transportation but were also used on some passenger trains. A total of 289 locomotives were built over a fifteen year period to the Gresley design. This model has a copper boiler, injector and fittings including water and pressure gauge, safety valves, whistle, clack valve and blow down plug. Chassis details include twin inside cylinders, inside Stephenson’s valve gear, fluted motion, leaf springs, oil chamber with ratchet oiler mechanism. Cab with fitted regulator, pressure gauge, twin sight glasses, brake, reverse controls and wooden planking to cab floor. The six wheel tender is fitted with hand feed pump, coal feed hopper, tool boxes and brake. The locomotive is finished in LNER black and red lined livery with polished brightwork, handrails and steps fitted. Firing tools and sundry spare fittings. Boiler History: Vale of Aylesbury Model Engineering Society test certificate dated the 5th of July 1985. Test pressure 90 psi. The model was completed in 1995 and has had very little use. 150cm long overall.

An 18th Century Brass Box; the twin lid inset with mother of pearl checkered squares and engraved on the reverse `Mrs Wroe, Died March 1784, Aged 80, J. Hopper` 3 ins x 2 ins (8 cms x 5 cms). A Brass Pen & Ink Carrier, the long rectangular pen holder having a hinged lid with protruding knop; the ink pot of bulbous square form having a decorative lid with small S-form hasp. 9½ ins (24 cms) in length. An 18th Century Brass Snuff Box with mother of pearl checkered lid measuring 2 ins (5.5 cms) x 1 ½ ins (3.5 cms).
