His prominent position in UK politics in the 1980s and 1990s meant he had a profound influence over domestic, and international, policy making during a turbulent and historic era. His wife Elspeth Howe (1932-2022) also worked in politics, and later became a crossbench Member of the House of Lords serving as Baroness Howe of Idlicote.

Gelatin silver print photograph titled "Edward Hopper in his studio, Truro, Mass," photographed in 1948 by Margaret French depicting artist Edward Hopper (American, 1882-1967) in his studio. Hopper is perhaps most well-known for his work "Nighthawks" (1942) depicting figures in an isolated night-time cafe. "Collection of John Anderson" inkstamp along the photograph verso. Ten Studio Hill stamp and inventory number "PJM 11394" inscribed along the matboard verso. With a label from D.C. Moore Gallery, New York along the matboard verso.Provenance: Estate of Paul Cadmus; The collection of Jon Anderson; Private Minnesota collection.Height: 4 1/2 in x width: 6 1/2 in.Condition: There are no tears, creases, or restorations. Very light wear along the edges. The photograph is affixed with two small pieces of framer's tape along the upper corners of the verso to a non-acidic matboard. The work is not framed.
A George III Lignum Vitae coffee grinder. Height 17 cm, base diameter 10.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The coffee grinder requires significant restoration. The base is in generally reasonable order but has numerous small dings, losses and marks to the proud areas of the turning, particularly around the base. There are also slight timber fractures across the base. The main problems are however with the upper section. The circumference to the top is damaged and in three pieces. There are no significant losses however the pieces would need reattaching and rebonding to the top surface. The grinding mechanism does turn and appears to be complete. One of the retaining screws is however missing and the aperture through which the screw would sit is also not present. All metalwork is rusty. The very top lip to the hopper has losses. The finial that would fit to the top of the handle is broken in two and has some losses also.
AFTER HENRY HOPPER, A LARGE PAINTED PLASTER FEMALE FIGURAL LIGHT 19TH CENTURY Neoclassical dress, glass shade 165.5cm high, base 46cm wide Condition Report: With wear, marks, repairs as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. The whole with various layers of later surface paint and wash making dating and determination of the restoration it may have undergone very difficult. It feels like a later 19th century example and with restoration definitely along right arm, possibly neck and face. Old chips and losses to base. The maximum depth from the shade to the back is approximately 63cm. Please see additional images for visual references to condition which form part of this condition report. EASY RIDER (1969) - Set of 27 Production Photograph Negatives - A set of 27 production photograph negatives from Dennis Hopper's Easy Rider. Motorcyclists Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) traveled across the country from Los Angeles to New Orleans for Mardi Gras where they met numerous individuals, including lawyer George Hanson (Jack Nicholson), who they later befriended. These large format 64 Kodak Safety Film color photo negatives feature images of Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson with other cast and crew members in various landscapes from the film. (1993) - Test Boot Sole, Printed Hand-Illustrated Concept Designs, Printed Designs, and Photos - A test boot sole, printed hand-illustrated concept designs, printed designs, and photos from Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton's Super Mario Bros. Brooklyn brothers and plumbers Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) traveled to an alternate universe to rescue Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis) from King Koopa (Dennis Hopper) who planned to take over the world. Created by assistant art director Simon Murton, this lot consists of a gray painted resin test boot sole; 11 pages of printed concept designs featuring hand-illustrated components; 18 pages of printed concept designs in black-and-white and color; 26 color printed behind-the-scenes photos; and a Cinefantastique magazine dated June 1993 with an article featuring the special effects of the film. The concept designs feature the printed and handwritten signature of Murton. This lot exhibits sticking on the photo's backing.
