His first record, a cover version of Buster Brown's US rhythm and blues hit "Sugar Babe", with guitar by Big Jim Sullivan and produced by Chris Blackwell, was released by Decca in 1962. It did not chart, and nor did two subsequent singles on Decca, but the record was a groundbreaking attempt at a proper R&B style on a British recording and helped pave the way for what was coming. In 1963, Powell moved to London and started visiting the Marquee Club, where British musicians such as Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies performed. His new manager, Malcolm Nixon, auditioned groups to act as his backing band, and offered the role to the Dimensions who were a London-based group formed in 1962 by guitarist Gary Leport, bassist Louis Cennamo, guitarist Peter Mariosa and drummer Brian "Chick" Kattenhorn. In 1963 they added rhythm guitarist Mike Webb and singer and harmonica player Rod Stewart. Leport and Stewart were old school friends, and had played together previously in a north London band, the Raiders, who (without Stewart) subsequently became the instrumental group the Moontrekkers and recorded with Joe Meek. With Jimmy Powell joining them as lead singer in 1963, the group changed their name to Jimmy Powell and The 5 Dimensions.

Their records were manufactured in very low quantities (sometimes as low as 20 or 30 copies) with hand-printed covers. By the mid-1960s Johnny and his wife Evelyn were undertaking a field trip to make recordings of Austrian folk music. On completion, the music was released in the US on Chris Strachwitz's legendary Arhoolie Records and on the 500 series of the newly formed Roots Records. Strachwitz suggested to the Parths that they should use the Roots label to re-issue limited edition vintage country blues recordings. With finance provided by Evelyn, they went ahead and produced the first country blues album, by Blind Lemon Jefferson. Johnny's ever-growing network of collectors provided the Austrian couple with a flow of rare, sometimes staggeringly rare, 78s which were lovingly transferred to ensure a flow of albums. Over the next few years, 41 albums appeared on the Roots 300 series of vinyl albums. As the 1960s blues boom took hold in the UK, many UK record shops supplied Roots LPs at premium import prices. In 1968, by agreement with Roots, Saydisc began to press and distribute Roots LPs in the UK, thus bringing the price down in comparison with Austrian imports. In 1970 the Roots label came to an end when Johnny and Evelyn divorced. In 1982 Parth began to reassemble his huge collection of 78s into chronological order and these recordings would later be the foundations for the new Document label.

RARE PAUL MCCARTNEY & RINGO STARR ANGEL IN DISGUISE DEMO. A cassette tape containing an unreleased and unheard recording of a demo track composed by McCartney (and possibly Ringo Starr) titled 'Angel in Disguise'. This track was planned for inclusion on Ringo's 'Time Takes Time' album but was omitted. The cassette contains a lo-fi version of the track, with Paul McCartney performing the lyrics over piano and drum machine and then a 'full' or studio version with vocals sung by Ringo Starr, a full backing track, backing singers, increased instrumentation inc harmonica, guitar and more, lastly to include a demo version of 'Everyone Wins' again sung by Ringo Star. Included with the tape are original mailing envelope with MPL logo, a typed note on MPL stationary requesting that Tony Prince make a "pop/rap" version of the demo cassette and to suggest some 'names' who may be interested in taking the song on, also printed lyrics and notation for the track, with 'McCartney' credited as songwriter, however Wikipedia states that this track is a collaboration between McCartney and Starr. This item is sold as an artefact only, no copyright (s) included.

The event was organised by Family Dog Productions. The Avalon Ballroom was a music venue in the Polk Gulch neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The space operated from 1966 to 1969, at the height of the counterculture movement. Buffalo Springfield was a Canadian-American rock band active from 1966 to 1968 whose most prominent members were Stephen Stills, Neil Young, and Richie Furay. The group released three albums and several singles, including "For What It's Worth". The band combined elements of folk and country music with British invasion and psychedelic-rock influences, and, along with the Byrds, were part of the early development of folk-rock. With a name taken from a brand of steamroller, Buffalo Springfield formed in Los Angeles in 1966 with Stills (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Dewey Martin (drums, vocals), Bruce Palmer (electric bass), Furay (guitar, vocals), and Young (guitar, harmonica, piano, vocals). The band signed to Atlantic Records in 1966 and released their debut single "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing", which became a hit in Los Angeles. The following January, the group released the protest song "For What It's Worth", for which they are now best known. Their second album, Buffalo Springfield Again, marked their progression to psychedelia and hard rock. After various drug-related arrests and line-up changes, the group broke up in 1968. Stephen Stills went on to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash with David Crosby of the Byrds and Graham Nash of the Hollies. His solo work began with the 1983 album Walk into Light, and since then he has released another five works, including the sequel to the Jethro Tull album Thick as a Brick (1972) in 2012, entitled Thick as a Brick 2. PASTERNAK BORIS: (1890-1960) Russian Poet and Novelist of Doctor Zhivago (1957). Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1958. An excellent and lengthy Autograph Manuscript, four pages, folio, n.p., n.d., in Cyrillic. The text is entitled `Pavlo Tychyna - The First Encounter- Chernigov, 1910´ and corresponds to Pasternak´s full translation into Russian of Tychyna´s work The First Encounter, being Pasternak a literary translator. The manuscript states in part `I remember an autumn day. The sky turned blue. Silver dust seemed to fall from the hot firmament… Lessons had finished, and you could hear the din, the laughing and the music of the harmonica in the seminar classes…´ further saying `..he said into the void, while holding a heap of leaves in his hands. He was black-eyed and was wearing a hat. I grasped anxiety in his eyes… The sun came out again. And the stranger, being about to get up, looked at me as if I were a dear person. How could I not lose my mind!...´ The poetic text further refers to George Sand, Glinka, and a musical concert, stating `After about five days a concert was given in the seminar hall. Students were in charge of taking care of spectators. Guests were arriving, the corridor was full. At the entrance of the hall, the greenery on the balconies hung down as a living garland hiding the frieze. We were on duty among the stewards, either rehearsing the bow, either joking about forfeits or about George Sand… "Don't be shy!" said the art teacher, slightly pushing me, introducing me to his companion: "A very promising poet, if there is a chance, it would not be a bad idea to publish his works. You must have a bunch of poems already?.. The bell rang and everyone started gathering slowly at the hall. Clumsy tuning up was escaping through the door. The horn set the tone for violas, racing with the clarinet. A roar of instruments was sonorous like a brawl. I also tried my oboe… Then the conductor waved his baton, reconciling discordant sounds. Everything froze. Glinka spoke from the suite. From the bottom of the bass, the forest began to rise… Winter was over... There was a spring day without limits around me, and the sun, and this little bird above the field! No! There was also the sweat of the working people, and the glory….that Glinka was praising. That work that tears the limits of time and pulls forward. I thought that Kotsyubinsky was also feeling that storming of notes. At the peak of our powers, we performed "Lark". While playing the oboe, I kept an eye on Kotsyubinsky. He was looking into the distance quietly, like a person at the helm. He knew: there were battles, victories and wars far away, and therefore our beloved creator was sitting straight up, honourable, and looked into the distance...´ Overall age wear, with some professional repairs, mostly to edges. Otherwise About G £6000-9000 Tychyna´s work "The First Encounter" was originally written in Ukranian, and was translated into Russian by Boris Pasternak. It was first published in 1939 by Molodaya Gvardia in Moscow. George Sand (1804-1876) French Novelist who used the pseudonym of George Sand, her real name being Amantine Dupin.
