Three: Sergeant J. Thompson, Scottish Rifles, who was killed in action on the Western Front on 20 July 1916 1914-15 Star (4838 Sjt. J. Thompson. Sco. Rif:); British War and Victory Medals (4838 Sjt. J. Thompson. Sco. Rif.) generally very fine (3) £100-£140 --- John Thompson was born in Barony, Glasgow, and attested for the Scottish Rifles at Hamilton. He served with the 9th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 1 June 1915, before transferring to the 1st Battalion, and was killed in action during the attack on High Wood, Somme, on 20 July 1916, on which date the battalion suffered 382 casualties. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
