Das Wort "Gymnasium", welches ursprünglich "Ort zum Nacktsein" bedeutet, wurde erstmals im antiken Griechenland verwendet, um einen Ort für die körperliche und geistige Ausbildung zu beschreiben. Hamiltons Installation basiert auf ihrem Interesse an diesem antiken Ort der körperlichen Ertüchtigung, der ästhetischen Wertschätzung des Körpers und der intellektuellen Betätigung sowie aber zum Beispiel auch auf der zeitgenössischen Fitnessstudio-Kultur.In Gymnasium entwickelt Hamilton mehrere Motive, die für ihre Praxis charakteristisch sind.
