1956 Lincoln Continental Mk. II Ex-Rockefeller Transmission: automaticMileage:7459The Continental Mk. II debuted at the 1955 Paris Motor Show. Its fashion forward lines fitted in nicely with the European marques also on display. First available for 1956, this incredible motorcar was the product of mostly handbuilt construction utilising only the finest materials available. The interior of these exclusive vehicles were lavish with power features, full leather and instrumentation that rivalled the precision of the finest watchmakers. Power was derived from the 368ci V8 that produced an incredible 285 horsepower. This level of performance and luxury was not without cost, considering the cost of nearly $10,000 when new. The Mk. II attracted the same clientele of Rolls-Royce with numerous famous owners including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower. Only 3,005 would be built between 1956 and 1957 and today the Continental Mk. II remains one of the most sought after models by collectors across the globe. This particular Mk. II was purchased new by one of the wealthiest people in the US, if not the world. A powerful person with a well-known name, a person so powerful he was the 49th Governor to New York and the 41st Vice President. His named branded forever in New York history with the famous Rockefeller Center. The man of course was none other than Nelson Rockefeller. This well documented car received a full nut and bolt restoration to show standards which included a thorough mechanical rebuild and today presents in fabulous condition, perfect for any collector or investor. Offered in deep red with complementary luxury red and cream interior, this coupé was sold new to Nelson Rockefeller in 1956 and since then it has been with a handful of collectors, more recently it was displayed at the Volo Auto Museum in Lakemoor, Illinois for which a video can be found below. This example is detailed in the Lincoln Registry and supplied with copies of the original ownership documents. The Lincoln Mk. II was supposedly produced at a loss to Ford/Lincoln to showcase the luxury of the Continental and with extras on top of the list price, it was thought to cost nearly $13,000 new. A major piece of history in stunning order, this example of the handbuilt Mk. II is a rare opportunity and one not to be missed.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale.
