‘Stack House’ a good and important early English painted wooden dolls house and contents, circa 1820, previously on display at the Vivien Greene Dolls House museum, the façade and sides with painted trompe l’oeil, creating a convincing red brick Regency house with stone string course, panelled front door with fanlight, Doric columns to portico and nine sash windows with painted blinds, the kitchen window is particularly interesting and shows a wire blind to keep out flies and a maidservant peering over, awaiting visitors perhaps, the black pitch roof has two chimneys, the front opens in two wings to four rooms, hallway and landing, mounted on a wooden stand. Hallway: this is entered by a painted wooden archway with painted marbled columns, leading to staircase with red silk carpet and ochre painted walls. Kitchen: with plain wood walls and floor, Evans and Cartwright tinplate cooking range with wooden fire surround and brass hand wound mechanical spit Jack, fixed hanging wooden shelves and a selection of kitchen furniture including wooden table, chairs, tinplate Evans & Cartwright chair, food, pots, pans, plates, serving dishes, kettle, utensils and more. Ground floor dining room: with cream floral wallpapers, Evans and Cartwright tinplate fireplace and painted wooden ‘marbled’ surround, good amount of furniture to include wooden tables, pink upholstered chairs with settee, bureau, bird in cage, chessboard (incomplete), and various ornaments, together with two bisque shoulder head seated gentlemen. Provenance: The house originates from Settle in Yorkshire, where it is believed to have remained in Stack House with one family for more than one hundred years, it was subsequently sold to, an antique dealer in Sussex who sold it to Miss Mary Titcomb a friend of Vivien Greene’s, the House features in ‘English Dolls’ Houses of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century’ Vivien Greene’s first book on Dolls Houses and the house was later exhibited in her famous Rotunda Museum, Oxford. The house was sold in 1998 by Bonhams Auctioneers, London as part of the Vivien Greene museum collection. Jennifer Le Masurier later acquired the house and has since done further extensive research into the history and family which will all be offered with the house. Game No. 100 of 150 copies for sale autographed by Nancy Reddin Kienholz; the total edition was 200. The abstract and modern chess set is complete. "Chess" was made to the overall design by Edward Kienholz circa 1997 under the supervision of Nancy Reddin Kienholz. The figures are in a covered case along with a folded chessboard and an explanation sheet. The chess pieces are originally sealed in the velvet bag. "Chess" was published by the Berlinische Galerie association on the occasion of the Kienholz retrospective in 1997 in the Berlinische Galerie, state museum for modern art, photography and architecture in the Martin - Gropius - Bau. Edward Kienholz (1927 - 1994) was an object and installation artist and worked e.g. in Berlin. With usage-related signs of aging and scraping, as well as smaller defects on the folded chess board and the covered cassette. Rare and sought-after collector's item.

A first edition of one of the scarcest early Italian chess manuals. Pietro Carrera was a historian and priest who gained considerable notoriety as a chess player. The treatise is divided into eight books, with subjects including probability and endgames. Carrera also invented a variation of the game on an 8x10 chessboard to which two new pieces were added, the "Champion" (a combination of the moves of the tower and the knight) and "Centaurus" (a combination of the bishop and the knight).The work is also important as it was the first book printed in Militello, at the private press of Prince Francesco Branciforte.

Here the cosmic being has the jambudvipa (representing the world and its continents) at its navel, and further levels of heaven and hell are depicted with further, more stylised, cosmological diagrams and a chessboard pattern above and below the navel.

A banner in the form of a square sheet, with inscriptions visible on opposite side (Vilnius 1940 - Love Demands Sacrifice, in the central part an image of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn, on the white parts of the sheet from the right, the PSP Chessboard, the Navigator's Badge, the Aviation Cadet School Badge and the Pilot's Badge. Second photo shows a banner box in the form of an eagle sitting on a rectangular box with the initials "PSP". General condition visible in the photos.

A nest of early Victorian Gillows specimen hardwood top quartetto tables with varying veneers to the tops including a chessboard, on turned underframe with slender turned stretchers, largest 59 x 41cm, 74cm high***CONDITION REPORT***Overall look to be in fair to good condition, good rich state of polish, the main top table has splits running from left to right and other scuff marks, looks to be veneered in an amboyna type burr wood, the second table down has a rosewood veneer with a burr wood surround, the third a pollard oak veneer with burr wood surround and the smallest table the chessboard veneer which does have some splitting and separation of the timbers, under frames essentially in good order.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. A Jacques ebony and boxwood Staunton pattern chess set, kings 9cm, with loaded bases and a Victorian walnut folding chessboard, inlaid with parquetry banding, 44 x 39cm when open***CONDITION REPORT***black - split to the base of the King, tiny wear to tips of the Queens crown, one bishop lacking finial and with damage to the slot, one knight with missing ear, the other with red crown stamp, one castle with red crown stamp, the other with tiny chip around the upper ring, one pawn with very fine hairline crack to base, all with baize bases, some which look to have been replaced.Boxwood - King rather faded and dirty around the finial with tiny chipping to the upper finial on one side, queen three points of the crown a little chipped, one knight with lost ear, the other with red crown stamp and small chip to ear, one castle with red stamp, one pawn with natural flaw in the wood of the ball finial, all with baize as per the black, all with some degree of fading.Folding board a little faded and scuffed around the edges with one split running near the front right corner.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. A GEORGE III YEW WOOD AND CROSSBANDED PEMBROKE GAMES TABLE CIRCA 1790 The reversible top with a satinwood and mahogany chessboard, sliding to reveal a gilt tooled leather backgammon board 74.5cm high, 55cm wide, 53.5cm deep Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, knocks, cracks, abrasions and minor repairs consistent with age and use.The top with some movement so that there are fine linear cracks to both sides of the reversible top; the top does not quite fit flush due to some shrinkage.There is some old worm with some holes to the leather backgammon surface.Some minor veneer losses and repairs, the lopers and sides to the drop leaves are later replacements, some later staining to the underside, the handles and lock are probably later and there is one key to operate the lock.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
