Regensburg, München 2007, S. 465, WVZ-Nr. 7616 Seit unserer Gründung im Jahr 1993 haben wir kaum eine Jugendstilauktion durchgeführt, in der wir nicht auch Erzeugnisse der Keramikmanufaktur Friedrich Goldscheider präsentiert haben. Aber noch nie haben wir ein Objekt dieses Unternehmens anbieten können, das derart beklemmend dessen Schicksal in der Zeit der nationalsozialistischen Herrschaft veranschaulicht: Eigentümer der 1882 gegründeten „Wiener Manufaktur Friedrich Goldscheider“ war im Jahr 1938 der aus einer jüdischen Familie stammende Walter Goldscheider. Unmittelbar nach der Okkupation Österreichs durch das nationalsozialistische Deutschland wurde er verhaftet; während dieser Haft wurde Walter Goldscheider gezwungen, sein Unternehmen um 50.000 Reichsmark, das entsprach 6 % des Vorjahresumsatzes, an den deutschen Staatsbürger Josef Schuster und dessen Ehefrau zu verkaufen. Ab dann – bis zu seiner Restitution kurz nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges – trat das Unternehmen unter der Bezeichnung „Wiener Manufaktur Josef Schuster“ auf. Im Jahr 1936 brachte die Manufaktur Friedrich Goldscheider zahlreiche dunkelhäutige Frauen darstellende Wandmasken, Büsten, Kopfskulpturen und Buchstützen auf den Markt. Darunter auch eine sogenannte Stehmaske, die den Kopf einer jungen Frau afrikanischer Herkunft zeigte. (Abbildung) In der Zeit der nationalsozialistischen Herrschaft in Österreich galten die meisten dunkelhäutigen Menschen als „rassisch minderwertig“. Die Gesichtsskulptur wurde daher – ebenso wie das Unternehmen – „arisiert“: Die Form blieb zwar gleich, aber die dunkle Hautfarbe wurde gegen eine weiße ausgetauscht; und die gekräuselten Haare wurden durch blonde Locken ersetzt. Die nationalsozialistische Ideologie hat also – hier besonders sichtbar – bis in die Kunstproduktion durchgeschlagen. Hergestellt ist das Objekt um 1942 worden. Im Jahr 1946 wurde der zwischen Walter Goldscheider und Josef Schuster zustande gekommene Kaufvertrag als nichtig aufgehoben und die Wiener Manufaktur Friedrich Goldscheider – allerdings schwer beschädigt und wirtschaftlich zugrunde gerichtet – seinem früheren Eigentümer zurückgegeben.
