With the ownership signature of William Henry Goss (1833-1906), owner of the Falcon pottery in Stoke-on-Trent. Goss was credited with the idea of making souvenir ware bearing crests and names of seaside resorts in the late 19th century, which became known as Goss Crested China. (1)

[Horse racing interest] A Victorian silver twin handled pedestal trophy cup and cover by Walker & Hall (John Edward Bingham) , Sheffield 1888, incused stamped by Walker & Hall (‘W&H’ on a flag), the finial modelled as a horse with jockey up, a domed moulded cover, moulded high loop handles, embossed with foliage and scroll-work, the front reserve presentation engraved ‘The Paddy Butler Memorial Cup’, the reverse with a jumping scene, on a tapered stem and a circular foot, 45cm (17.5in) high, 1660g (53.35 oz); with an ebonised socle (the base of the stem almost split through at the foot)
A Japanese `famille verte` porcelain jar and cover, Meiji period, the ovoid body and dome cover finely enamelled in the Kangxi style with ornamental pheasant and other birds perched amongst prunus branches, blossoming peony and rockwork, within black banded borders filled with green scrolling foliage, green enamelled pseudo seal mark of Qianlong to base, height approx 31cm, the cover interior applied with a paper label inscribed `The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, No L68.324, lent by Walker Art Center`.
TRENCHARD HUGH: (1873-1956) British Marshal of the Royal Air Force, instrumental in the establishing of the RAF. T.L.S., H Trenchard, one page, small 4to, Narnet (sic; Barnet), Hertfordshire, 31st January 1923, to Mr. Miller. Trenchard announces that he has heard from General Fowke who has informed him that Long Walker was killed in the last year of the war, `and that he was a very brave man`. Trenchard also states that Fowke asked to be remembered to his correspondent and would have liked to fix a meeting, but is leaving for a trip to France and Corsica. About VG
BADER DOUGLAS: (1910-1982) British World War II Ace (22.5 victories), recognised for his important role during the Battle of Britain. T.L.S., Douglas Bader, one page, slim 4to (folding aerogramme), n.p. (London), n.d. (1975), to David Carlson. Bader states that he was in Texas for Armed Forces Week at the beginning of May, remarking `I know Texas is about three times the size of the British Isles but it was a pity we could not meet while I was out there` and also thanking him for having sent some American currency for Bader`s return postage, `I shall keep them against my next visit to your splendid country. Perhaps indeed to your unique State.` Together with a selection of clipped pieces etc. signed by various Battle of Britain pilots including Kenneth McGlashan, Peter Dawbarn, Aubrey Covington, Bob Walker, Alan Hedges, John Hunter-Tod, John Kilmartin, Dudley Honor etc. Each of the signed pieces are neatly mounted alongside printed biographies.
