King Edward VII on the occasion of his laying the head coping stone of King Edwards Dock at Gibraltar 9th April 1903 Rear Admiral Sir William Dyke Arland Bart R.N. Admiral Superintendent presented to the Hon. Lady Arland by the contractors Topham Jones & Railton as a souvenir”. The mallet with a matching inscription upon an applied shield shape plaque, within fitted Mappin and Webb oak case, 39cm and 31cm respectively
