H.M.S. NEPTUNE: A HURT TICKET FOR JOHN WILD, QUARTER GUNNER on vellum - 13 x 9in. (33 x 23cm.), The Chatham Chest award isn`t noted, but Wild received severe burns over several parts of his body and eyes from a large quantity of gun powder being ignited. Wild was 29 years old and from St. Ives, Cornwall.
H.M.S. DREADNOUGHT: A GREENWICH CHEST AWARD TO JEREMIAH HAYES, QUARTER GUNNER for £4 per annum, on standard paper, watermarked for 1803 and addressed to Jeremiah Hayes, No 48 Ward, Hasler Hospital, Portsmouth and bears a `FALMOUTH 275` ship`s postal frank (seal tear) - 12 3/4 x 8in. (32.5 x 20.3cm.) folded. Hayes was 32 years old and came from Killarney, Ireland. He received a wound in his right foot which occasioned the loss of two toes. This ticket is written on paper instead of vellum which is unusual. There is an inscription which reads; There not being any Smart Tickets in the agent`s office at Gibraltar, a written certificate has been given.
[HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING]: A rare unsigned original printed oblong 12mo ticket (lacking stub) for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship fight between Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay at the Convention Hall, Miami Beach, Florida on 25th February 1964. The pale green laminated ticket features circular portraits of the two boxers and was for the raised ringside seat 12 on section S, row 1, which cost $100. One very small, minor crease, otherwise VG. This ticket was for the first of two fights between the boxers. Liston, the World Heavyweight Champion, lost his title to Clay after a technical knockout in the seventh round, Liston failing to continue the fight after suffering a shoulder injury. The day after the fight, Clay announced that he was changing his name to Muhammad Ali.
CHAPLIN CHARLES: (1889-1977) English Film Comedian, Academy Award winner. Blue ink signature on the verso of an oblong 12mo printed ticket for the Roupell Park Estate Social Club Grand Christmas Draw, 1958. Neatly annotated to the verso beneath the signature by a collector, indicating that the signature was obtained in person on the Strand in London in 1958. Slight fold, not affecting the signature, G
MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. A.L.S., `Monty`, one page, 8vo, Islington Mill, Alton, Hampshire, 16th May 1949, to `My dear Ava`. Montgomery states that he is sending his friend two more copies (no longer present) of his Paris speech on St. George`s Day, and further explains that he will arrange for her to be sent one ticket for the Trooping of the Colour on 9th June, adding that she should come to his office in Whitehall at 10.30.
