A Georgian engraved oval silver ticket, believed a racing ticket for Nottingham Racecourse, one side engraved "Lord Lincoln, No 63", 32 x 42mm. Very fine. Henry Fiennes Pelham-Clinton (1720-1794), KG, PC, 2nd Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyne, and [1730] the 9th Earl of Lincoln. Very fine, pierced. Perhaps connected with the wealthy tobacconist, Lundy Foot, for whom the Irish barrister and orator, John Philpot Curran (1750-1817), suggested the Latin motto QUID RIDES for his coach as it works in both Latin and English - a play on a `quid` of tobacco.
