Five pocket corkscrews, a late 18th century silver case corkscrew, maker`s mark IT only to the sleeve, possibly John Turner, circa 1796 with elongated barrel shape handle, the threaded sleeve with ribbed bands, 9.5cm; another similar by the same maker, 9.5cm; another smaller pocket corkscrew by Joseph Wilmore with mother of pearl handle, the bright cut engraved sleeve with maker`s mark only, 8cm together with two steel pocket corkscrews (5)

A Victorian lacquered brass demonstration gyroscope. John Davies, London, circa 1870. The phosphor-bronze flywheel pivoted within a brass ring with hook at one end and supported in a cradle, the apparatus mounted via a sleeve pivot onto a brass column upright with disc base signed John Davies, LONDON, 22cm high, in original mahogany box with brass weights, now with later dished pine cradle to facilitate pull-start. Provenance: The property of a descendant of John Davies. The original wooden starting cradle was lost during an air raid on the premises of Davies Brothers Weston-super-Mare in 1942 (see following lot for biographical footnote).
