A George III brass Cuff-type compound microscope Thomas Ribright, London, late 18th century The body-tube with knurled edges to threaded sections and resting in the ring terminal of an arm from the vertical pillar support, with fine screw focus adjustment (the pillar engraved with annotations relating to positions of focal strength) and with locking screw to sliding piece, the concave-sided square stage signed THOMAS REBRIGHT, LONDON, FECIT and with oculus to centre, the upright continuing down into a rectangular section sleeve with scroll-outline bracing bracket to rear and shaped fixing plate for the concave moulded mahogany base, applied with pivoted plano-concave mirror and with apron drawer enclosing fitted interior with six objectives, a part compressor, specimen clamp and other accessories, with original oak pyramid-shaped box with brass ring handle to the turned top and apron drawer for slides, the instrument 34cm high unextended, the box 44cm high overall. Provenance: The estate of a deceased collector. Purchased Christies Scientific and Engineering Works of Art, Instruments and Models South Kensington 28/05/1998 lot 117. Probably by Thomas Ribright II who is recorded in Clifton, Gloria Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers1550-1851 as working 1783-1806. The design of the current lot was developed by John Cuff in the early 1740`s as an improvement over standard models of the period in particular with regards to focussing.

GARLAND JUDY: (1922-1969) American Film Actress & Entertainer, Academy Award winner. Vintage signed album record sleeve for a recording of the original motion picture sound track for the animated film musical Gay Purr-ee (1962). Signed (`Sincerely, Judy Garland`) in black fountain pen ink across a light area of her image to the front of the sleeve. Record no longer present. One small hole to the upper right corner and some very light overall age wear, about VG

The disc is an album entitled Main Course and features the song Jive Talkin`. Signed by each brother to the colour cover of the inside sleeve in bold blue inks. Disc still present. EX

Signed in blue fountain pen ink, largely to the lower white border, and dated 1942 in his hand. Together with a 45rpm single record sleeve for Gigli-Operatic Favourites-A Treasury of Immortal Performances, signed by Gigli to the verso, record still present, and an unsigned printed 4to programme for a performance by Gigli at the Royal Albert Hall, London, 9th October 1949. Signed by Bernstein in bold black ink with his name alone to the first page of the central printed record notes. Together with Bill Clinton (1946- ) American President 1993-2001. A 4to printed theatre programme for a performance of A Moon for the Misbegotten at the Old Vic Theatre, London, 25th September 2006, signed by Clinton, a member of the audience that evening, with his name alone in bold black ink to the inside cast list. Also including two signed pieces by Norman Wisdom and an LP record sleeve signed by Roger Whittaker. VG to EX, 5

The letter attached to book on inner sleeve on Marlborough House headed paper - `I am sending you the book of my husband`s life which has just come about and which I hope you will like, it is well written by Harold Nicholson`, the next page Queen Mary has written `To Princess Wolkonsky from Mary R, Xmas 1952`. (Provenance: The book was gifted by Princess Wolkonsky to her house servant, the vendor`s Aunt).

Tancred in a fur hat, yellow lined puce pelisse, green dolman, flowered breeches and purple boots standing before a stump on a sprigged base, his companion carrying a tray of bottles and clad in a headscarf, fur trimmed turquoise jacket and striped and flowered skirt, 22.5 and 21cm h, c1770. ++ Tancred - old overpainted restoration to the hands and sleeve flaps at the back. Some chipping of the encrusted flowers and leaves. Actress - old discoloured restoration to neck. Neither figure with any modern professional restoration
