A set of six early 19th century French metalwares vermeil dessert spoons, mark of Cincinnatus Lorillon, Paris (1819-39), cockerel 1st standard and guarantee marks for 950/1000 standard silver, each decorated with an inner border of fruiting vines with mascaron to the top within a 'dot and dash' border, verso with panels of doves, fruiting vines and a shield shaped cartouche engraved with the crest of AILLEN, 11.5ozt gross (6)Cincinnatus Lorillon, (circa 1795-1865) was part of the large Lorillon-Chenailler-Soufflot dynasty of Parisian flatware makers. He registered his first mark (succeeding his father Pierre Benoit Lorillon) in 1814/15, renewing it three more times until it was finally cancelled in 1839, when he was succeeded by Henri-Louis Chenailler.Overall in good condition with no obvious sign of repairs. Minor surface scratches as to be expected and commensurate with use. Some very minor denting to some of the bowls. Marks and engraving clear and readable. Some minor staining and discolouration to some of the stems.

His firm was the main contractor for the Albert Memorial in London and also built the early buildings of the South Kensington Museum – now the Victoria and Albert Museum. Kelk was instrumental in the construction of buildings for the 1862 International Exhibition and, when dismantled, elements of the exhibition buildings were used for the creation of the Alexandra Palace. Kelk was elected MP for Harwich in 1865, but did not seek re-election when the seat was reduced to one member in 1868.Having attained considerable wealth in construction works relating to railways and docks in the London area, Kelk bought Bentley Priory at Stanmore, and Tidworth sporting estate in Hampshire where he died on 12 September 1886.
