TWO VERY RARE MATT BLACK PAINTED PLASTER STANDS FOR RUSKIN POTTERY EXHIBITION VASES in Chinese style on four or five feet, 9 and 15cm h, c1925 Provenance: William Howson Taylor (1876-1935); Ferneyhough Collection. Howson Taylor used stands such as these for the largest and finest of his flambé vases. Three such vases were photographed on similar stands for an illustration in The Studio, November 1925; see Atterbury (P) and J Henson, Ruskin Pottery, Somerset 1993, illustrated p113. ++Both in good condition

Many of the items in this lot are illustrated, Atterbury & Henson, op cit. ++The lot in generally very good condition, long having been kept away from the light in a box, much unique archival material included. Two pieces of Ruskin Pottery to include a pot with matched lid, of blue and green crystalline glaze, the lid with pierced florets with dove grey glaze and vase of bulbous form with flaring neck, cream glaze with traces of yellow lustre, painted floral decoration, impressed and scissor marks, dated 1913, the other impressed mark for Percy Holland, both A/F, largest approx. 26cm high.

A Ruskin Pottery high fired vase, of bulbous necked tapering form, mottled brown, ochre, russet and black flambe glaze, with blue and cream speckles with red flecks, originally made as a lamp base with central hole to base, but plugged with clay and glazed over contemporary to manufacture, impressed marks, undated, approx. 21cm high.
A Ruskin Pottery high fired vase, shape 64 from the 1906 catalogue, of footed bulbous necked form, with green and black specked mauve, lilac and sang de boeuf flambe glaze on an ivory ground, impressed mark for Percy Holland and dated 1933, this vase came in three sizes, this being the middle one, approx. 25cm high.
