A 19th century walnut tabletop polyphon, the horizontal movement playing steel discs, the hinged lid with marquetry inlaid flowers, with monochrome print inset to the underside, acanthus leaf carved base, on bracket feet, with winding handle, length of base 58cm, depth 52cm, height 34cm, together with a mahogany steel polyphon disc storage cabinet of two sections, containing approximately fifty-five steel discs. CONDITION REPORT No apparent missing teeth, tips appear intact from what is visible. Those running against the discs obviously shortened. Two cones, appears to be in working order.

One of the supports of the mechanism visibly deteriorated and this will need attention. Interior generally somewhat worn, scuffs and scrapes and assume will need some attention and/or restoration. None of the discs are tested. Surface scratches throughout and similar to the mahogany box. It certainly winds and starts, but the stop function is not working correctly so it is not sold in working order.

A good late 19th century Raby/Palace 19 5/8" 'Penny in the Slot' Polyphon (Style 188) musical box in walnut and burr walnut case, manufactured in Leipzig, with plaque featuring classical boy and woman with laurel wreath and inscribed 'Marque de Fabrique Schutz Marke Trade Marke', with plaques to both sides, the panelled lower section with pull-out eight division disk bin, flanked by carved fret detail on stepped base to compressed bun feet, upper section with turned finials and further carved detail, inscribed in gilt 'Polyphon' to plaque, with pierced scroll work to front panel upper section, retailed by H. Peters & Co of London, height 210cm, width 73cm, depth 41cm, offered with five 19 5/8" discs comprising 'Coronation March' by Godfrey, 'Queen of the Earth' by Ciro Pinsuti, 'San Toy "The Butterfly"' by Sidney Jones, 'Theo-Gavot' by Paul Schmidt and 'The Geisha' by Sidney Jones.Provenance: The Norman Roland Collection of Mechanical Music.Additional InformationWhen manually wound does produce music; a gear has come loose from one of the shafts; please see attached video; comb and teeth in good condition. Part of the gilt lettering of the 'l' in polyphon to the upper section has been lost, split to lower section left side, further splits to other side, further chips to veneer, a repaired section to lower panel left side, some pronounced scuffing, scraping and veneer losses to base and lower section in general. Split to panel above disk bin running across the width of the panel, further splits and veneers losses throughout, refer to illustrations. Deterioration in colour to the 'drop a penny in the slot' plaque supplied to either side, a small flaw to the glass panel possibly present from manufacture 1.5cm in length.

A Buckley music system music box, 28.5 cm, together with an early 20th Century oak cased polyphon of 'Radio' form, the back opening to reveal 11 discs to include "You're My Baby", "The Brooklyn Cake Walk", "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine", "Mr Cupid", etc, 21.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Polyphon - No key. Unable to tell if it is working. Two teeth appear to be damaged and one set lower. Case has chips and knocks and bumps all over, some splits, etc and the escutcheon around the turning handle hole is broken. Mechanism has some rusting and pitting. Has wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for more details.
