An Indian carved wooden elephant plaque, second half 20th century, the naturalistic split trunk deeply carved with a procession of elephants emerging from a forest, with birds and monkeys in the trees above, vines rising up from the forest floor and twisting through the trees, 70½in. (5.75 x 3.75cm.); together with a smaller oval 19th century porcelain patch box, floral bouquet design with pique work style gold enamel, gilt metal reeded mounts and shell thumb piece, 1½ x 1in. He was promoted to Colonel on 29th February 1908 serving in the Bombay Command and 11th October 1911 was promoted to Temporary Brigadier General in command of The Royal Artillery of the 7th (Meerut) Division of the Northern Army. He was confirmed as Brigadier General on 6th November 1914, having been appointed to the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force in October 1914.
