Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson of Kilburn: a set of eight rare oak and leather upholstered panel back dining chairs, including two carvers, circa mid-1930’s, upholstered leather seats, the panel backs with cut out handle, on octagonal front legs, each carved with high relief trademark mouse to front legs, 42 x 42 x 72cms.Notes: This piece of furniture was commissioned by the vendor’s grandfather for the dining room in his house in Darras Hall, Ponteland in 1937. The family believe that Robert Thompson made a personal visit to the property to check it was of a 'suitable standard' to house his items. Robert Thompson (1876–1955) was a skilled craftsman and furniture maker from North Yorkshire, known for using a carved mouse as his distinctive maker's mark. The son of a carpenter, Thompson expanded the family business significantly, and by the time he registered the mouse as his trademark in the 1930s, he employed a team of 30 artisans.

There is a small patch to the inside of the bowl which is slightly lighter. There are some surface scratches to the inside of the bowl. There is baize struck to the bottom of the larger bowl. The ashtray is a later piece and has a lighter colour. Please see the additional images.

It also has a repaired chip to the corner of the foot. The other has been cut and drilled to the underside, the vendor possibly wanted it to be converted to electricity. An oak book trough with carved mouse motif by Robert Thompson (The Mouseman) of Kilburn 45.3 cm wide x 20.8 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Whilst the piece is basically sound, there are large areas of staining particularly to the left hand side support. Both ends are adzed but shallow. The back and base panels appear flat i.e. not adzed - see images for further detail

Including an octagonal shaped oak bread board, with a carved signature Mouse on one edge (30cms by 25cms), also with a Mouseman cheese board with signature Mouse to the handle (37.5cms long). (2). *CR Cheese board, small chip to the base of the handle, some marks in places, very dry and needs some furniture oil or wax.Bread board, also very dry, some scratches to the top and bottom in places.
