Tea Party on the Lawn, watercolour and bodycolour, signed lower right, 22 x 28.5cm (8.75 x 11.25 ins), framed and glazed Provenance: Bonhams, London, 8 November 2005, lot 177. A wedding present from the artist to a charge nurse at Napsbury Mental Hospital where Wain resided from May 1930 until his death in 1939. The building in the background of the present work is clearly based on Napsbury Hospital where Wain was staying when he painted the picture. However using poetic licence Wain has made numerous embellishments to the building. (1)
