A GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK SPORTING RIFLE CIRCA 1625, 80cm sighted octagonal slightly swamped barrel with engraved line of sight and traces of maker's stamp to the breech, plain flat lock, sliding pan cover with button release, figured fruitwood full stock, the fore-end profusely inlaid with a bordered frieze in horn with dogs, deer, stags, and hare, the sideplate area similarly inlaid but with the addition of a hunter with shouldered wheel-lock rifle, the cheek piece decorated with engraved horn plaques depicting a wooded glade with a boar being brought down by dogs and approached by three hunters, one with shouldered wheel-lock rifle, the second on horseback with boar spear, and the third on foot again with boar spear, and signed by the stock maker RL, the remainder of the stock profusely inlaid with scrolling vines and ball decoration, further applied throughout with deer, dogs, hares and stags, the barrel tang area and comb decorated with engraved horn plaques depicting stylised figures of the Green Man and a gentleman in period costume, sliding patch-box cover, horn butt-plate, iron trigger guard with set trigger, engraved horn ramrod pipes and fore-end cap, replacement horn tipped ramrod. Some replacement inlays.The stockers mark RL is possibly that listed on p.778 of Stockel and referred to as being circa 1625.

HOFFMAN on the top flat and engraved with geometric designs at the breach, border engraved stepped lock with faceted pan and signed S. HOFFMAN BAYREUTH, full stocked with horn fore-end cap, the stock well carved about the brass mounts.

Fore-end cap a composite replacement.
A CRISP CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY JOHN MANTON, serial no. 3255 to trigger guard, breeches, barrels and fore-ends dating 1799, 10inch sighted damascus barrels signed MANTON LONDON in gold, dual gold lined breeches and gold lined touch holes, border engraved stepped and bolted locks signed MANTON, half stocked with border engraved steel mounts, the barrel tangs engraved with a star burst, stand of arms and foliate flourish, the trigger guards engraved with floral bouquets and serial numbers, pineapple finials, chequered butts, horn capped wooden ramrods, contained in a relined Joseph Manton mahogany case with later John Manton trade label, complete with commensurate accessories to include bullet mould, three-way flask, loading rod, oil bottle and leather flint wrap.
A 19TH CENTURY JAMBIYA ENSEMBLE, 21.5cm sharply curved blade with raised medial ridge, characteristic white metal mounted hilt with horn grip, contained in its leather backed white metal faced wooden scabbard, complete with woven white metal decorated belt with three filigree white metal cartridge cylinders.
A WHITE METAL MOUNTED JAMBIYA, 23cm sharply curved blade with raised medial ridge and decorated with flower heads and two panels of calligraphy, characteristic horn hilt inlaid with white metal studs and applied filigree decoration, contained in its leather wrapped wooden scabbard with large white metal filigree decorated mount, the centre of the leather back set with a white metal plaque bearing calligraphy.
AN 18TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL STILETTO DAGGER, 8cm triangular section blade, ornate turned crossguard, castellated pommel, the horn grip set with brass studs and mother-o'-pearl plaques, together with another, late 19th Century, with cruciform section blade and spirally fluted ivory grip, the latter with scabbard. A MID-VICTORIAN FOLDING DIRK OR BOWIE KNIFE BY W RODGERS, CIRCA 1850, 11cm flattened diamond section blade stamped W RODGERS CELEBRATED CUTLERY, foliate embossed white metal crossguard, riveted two-piece natural stag horn grips, the white metal pommel decorated with flowers and foliage. This is an earlier and rarer W Rodgers and not to be confused with the later William Rodgers.
A VICTORIAN BOWIE KNIFE BY WOSTENHOLM & SON, 15cm blade with spear point stamped with the manufacture's details, IXL at the forte and the IXL branding, some staining, white metal mounted hilt with two-piece riveted natural stag horn grip, contained in its red leather scabbard marked IXL, white metal mounts.
AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY WALKING CANE, the ivory pommel carved as the head of a Native American in feathered headdress with a turtle at his throat symbolising Mother Earth, above engraved silver collar hallmarked London 1922 with maker's mark AR, ebonised haft and horn ferrule, 93.5cm long over all.
A WALKING CANE WITH SILVER POMMEL, the substantial pommel hallmarked London 1925 by Henry Perkins & Sons and engraved E. Fearenside Merchiston Castle Edinburgh, malacca shaft, horn ferrule, 90cm long over all. Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Fearenside DSO OBE, (1881-1959), Classics Master at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, and later Master at St Edwards School, Oxford. While still a Captain he was awarded the DSO during the July battles of the Somme, his citation reading as follows: "For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led up to two companies of reinforcements over some 1,800 yards of open ground swept by machine gun fire, into a village. Here he rallied his men and organised a further attack. He displayed the greatest coolness and courage throughout".
A GOOD VICTORIAN RIFLE VOLUNTEERS PRESENTATION SWORD, 82cm slightly curved blade etched with crossed lances, laurel wreaths, crowned strung bugle horn, crowned RIFLE VOLUNTEERS and the inscription PRESENTED BY E COMPANY TO COL-SGT. G. BAKER ON PROMOTION MARCH 1893, regulation plated Gothic hilt incorporating a crowned strung bugle horn, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its engraved plated mounted leather scabbard.
A GEORGIAN LIGHT COMPANY OFFICER'S SWORD, 82.5cm curved blade decorated with stands of arms, crowned Royal arms and crowned GR III cypher, highlighted in gilt upon a blued ground, marked J. Runkel, Solingen, copper gilt half basket hilt with D-shaped guard supported by two scrolling side bars, these supporting a strung bugle horn within an oval frame, bold lion's head pommel, wire bound ribbed ivory grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount dot punched with details for Thurkle's No. 15 New Street Fetter Lane.
A FRENCH MODEL 1872 ENGINEERS OFFICER'S SWORD, 86.5cm double fullered flattened diamond section blade struck with a maker's mark at the forte, regulation gilt brass hilt, the foreguard applied with a breastplate and helmet, folding rear guard, D-shaped knuckle guard, spherical pommel, ribbed horn grip. No scabbard.
