Elspeth Eagle Clarke (20th century) Woodland Fairies signed, dated 1923, watercolour, 35cm x 24cm Provenance: By family descent. Little is recorded of Elspeth Eagle Clarke, a talented painter of fairy tale subjects and flower studies. In the 1930s she designed two elaborate hand cut jigsaw puzzles entitled `Dragonland` and `Elfin` for the toy and games manufacturer Chad Valley

A small collection of jigsaw puzzles, comprising two Chad Valley GWR jigsaws, `The Vikings Landing at St. Ives` and `Brazenose College Oxford`, both boxed with maps, seven AVN Jones and Co jigsaws, comprising `Union Express`, `The Continental Limited`, `Crested Eagle`, `Royal Eagle`, `Hail and Farewell`, `Orient Line` and `The Opening of Parliament`, and two Springbok Series puzzles, all boxed (believed to be complete, boxes creased, scuffed or stained).
Tom McGuinness (1926-2006), Miners Underground fixing Props, Signed and dated (19)88, pen, ink and watercolour, 36cm by 55.5cm. Born at Witton Park in County Durham, educated at the local Roman Catholic School, St Chad`s. 1940-1944 worked in the timber trade, then started in the coal industry as a `Bevin Boy`. Remained in mining for 39 years. Attended evening classes at Darlington Art College and became a member of the Spennymoor Settlement, a pioneering community arts group. Made redundant in 1982. A RARE CHAD VALLEY WHITE MOHAIR TEDDY BEAR with clear and black glass eyes with brown painted backs, pronounced muzzle with black stitched bulbous nose, stitched mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed limbs with white felt pads, white velvet hand pads, squeaker and red and white label on right foot, 1930s, 15.1/2in. (39.5cm) high, (bald spot on back, other minor thinning and a bit dirty).
