Two Chad Valley (Harborne, England) tinplate clockwork Racing Cars: one in pale blue and mid-blue, 29cm long, and the other in mid-green and cream, 19.5cm long. Both with balloon tyres and flat driver figure, clockwork motors in working order. F/P, surface corrosion and paint loss. Together with a tinplate Steam Roller, clockwork model finished in green with overhead canopy, red roller and wheels, and black funnel. When motor wound model moves backwards and forwards. Length 30cm. G/F, some wear to wheels and roller dented. (3)

A Chad Valley tin plate clockwork delivery van, printed with various board games and inscribed to the sides "By Appointment Toymakers to HM The Queen The Chad Valley Co., Limited., Harborne, England", with key, 25 cm long CONDITION REPORTS Paintwork with general wear and scuffs, some tarnish. Rusting and tarnish, particularly to the unpainted areas. Top is loose. Overall with dents and mis-shaping. Wheels discoloured and worn and with losses to paintwork and tarnish/rusting. The mechnism does wind up and does drive the back wheels. BACK DOOR SLIGHTLY MISHAPEN AND SMALL DENT BUT CLOSES WITH ORIGINAL LOCK

(x) Northern Nigeria1901 (16 Aug.) envelope (with lengthy enclosures) written by Lt. Wilkin at Odeni, to his step-brother in London, bearing 1901 1d. tied by "northern nigeria" c.d.s. and showing arrival d.s.(13.9) on reverse. The contents tell of the arrival of Major McClintock, Seaforth Highlanders, to prepare for the Yola expedition in September. Photo note: The Emir of Yola was one of the principle slave traders in West Africa and it was the British intention to put a stop to the slave trading. Another objective of the campaign was to reinstate Fataralola as Emir of Bornu. Fataralla was son of Rabbeh, a former slave but became a governor of Egyptian Sudan. Rabbeh was summoned by the Mahdi to Omdurman but took the view that it was a hopeless cause and marched his army through Durfur to Dikwa near Lake Chad. GWR boxed Game `Race To The Ocean Coast`, manufactured by Chad Valley for the Great Western Railway. Complete except the Shaker (as normal) containing the board, three locomotives and the original instructions. Overall extremely good, the box is quite good but does have some edge splitting. The box image is extremely good and depicts King Class 6000 storming forward.

Height 47cm. A charming doll in VG condition, some rubbing to nose.
