BARDIN / in Salisbury Square, Fleet Street, London, with two sets of twelve-coloured gores applied to the sphere mounted in a brass meridian, the horizon ring with engraved paper calendar and zodiac scale, supported on four later quadrants on a mahogany tripod base and brass castors, approx. 107cm highCondition Report: There is water damage to the globe and horizon ring, especially to Atlantic ocean from North to South Pole which also has bruises to the gores.  Further damage and restoration around the equator, particularly in the Pacific ocean.  Numerous scuffs, abrasions and small losses overall, including to horizon ring.  Cracks to top and bottom where globe attaches to brass meridian.  There is discolouration to the globe throughout and to the horizon ring.  The quadrants are later replacements and one has repaired break to lower section.  The attachment of the globe to the stand at the top of the pedestal is off-centre and there are visible holes from previous screws.  Typical wear and tarnishing to brass fixtures.  The base with scratches and knocks to edges, one foot with loss to back of tapering foot above the castor.  Cracks to underside of base and with vacant screw holes where bracket would have formerly been positioned.

A Victorian coromandel vanity case, mid-19th century, the hinged lid with monogrammed cartouche enclosing a removable mirror, the fitted interior with lift-out compartment and fitted with various silver-gilt topped glass boxes, bottles and containers, with floral chasing and central monogrammed cartouches to lids, marked London, 1854, maker's mark JH, one circular lid is replaced, London, 1849, Halstaff & Hannaford (William Halstaff & Thomas Charles Hannaford), with partially fitted tray with manicure items and propelling pencils and pen, above a gilt-tooled tray, the lock mechanism marked S. MORDAN & Co. LONDON and PATENT with crown stamp, the front with flush push-release drawer below with hinged leather writing surface enclosing fitted jewellery compartments, 19cm high, 32cm wide, 25cm deep   Condition Report: This case and the contents within are in overall good condition and present well. The exterior: some wear including scratches and deep marks, cracks to sections of coromandel, and tarnished brass mounts, the underside has green felt lining. The case locks and unlocks smoothly with a push-release mechanism, opens smoothly, and locks into place on brass sliding hinges.The interior: the mirror plate is in good condition with only a couple of light scratches, the fitted interior has some light marks and losses of leather, the lift-out compartment has two small brass ringlets which lift the tray easily from its compartment. The glass containers and bottles with general surface dirt in the grooves of the hobnails and minor nibbles to edges and some minor damage to glass including one cylindrical tall bottle with a cracked base, the other cylindrical bottle with minor chip to rim, one small rectangular container with chip to base, and the thinner rectangular container with chip to side rim and chips to corners. The silver-gilt tops are in good condition with light tarnishing, the silver-gilt beaker has moderate tarnishing in concentrated areas and is slightly misshapen to rim, the leather tray to the interior has smart gilt tooling which has not faded. The various manicure items have considerable tarnishing and some rust especially to the pliers and scissors, and there are associate pen and pencil holders. The vesta case has damage to the green enamel interior.  The push-release drawer: the mechanism is functional, the leather top has some creasing and marks, and lifts out easily to reveal a fitted compartment interior with some general wear to the leather and lining.

Chatterley & Sons, Birmingham, 1968. Of curved rectangular form, with engine turned design to body and vacant cartouche to one side, designed with a screw cap, 9 x 13.5cm approx. weight 7.7ozt Condition Report: The hip flask is in good condition commensurate with age. Some general surface scratching and nicking but no damage or repairs noted. Some minor bruising in places commensurate with light use. When tested with water, no leaks to body but when shaken vigorously some small drops escaping from under cap. Cork is present inside cap but shows some wear and minor losses which may be the cause of the minor leak. Small ding to cap. Cap opens and closes securely and snugly. Hinge in good condition. Some scratching to panel beneath cap. Hallmarks generally clear, with only date letter slightly rubbed. Overall a nice hip flask in good condition. An Arts and Crafts silver plated tumbler cup. Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild, c.1910. Of circular form with a hammered finish, stamped to the underside with mark of D.S.C.G. beneath a ducal coronet, 7.8cm dia., 4.8cm high. Together with a Victorian silver pepper shaker, London, 1888, Charles Stuart Harris, the urn-shaped body engraved with scrolling foliate motifs and a vacant cartouche, raised on a stepped circular foot, gilding to interior, 9.5cm high, total weighable silver approx. 1.3ozt (2)Footnotes: The Duchess of Sutherland Cripples Guild was formed by Lady Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine, Duchess of Sutherland, in 1900. The aim of the Guild was to raise funds for disabled children from the Staffordshire Potteries. Working conditions in the potteries were harsh and Millicent, nicknamed 'Meddlesome Millie' by the manufacturers, used her influence to improve those conditions,  campaigning, for example, against the use of lead in the industry. Another aim of the Guild was to teach children craft skills so that they could make a living for themselves.The Guild began to produce metalwork, as well as other objects, and was an influential part of the British Arts & Crafts movement. Most items were made in copper or silver plate, but some fine examples of silver work were also produced. From 1907, the Guild began to create replicas of 16th -18th century pieces from the collections of private owners or museums. It also started to add the mark of D.S.C.G. under a ducal coronet to its pieces. A shop was opened up on New Bond Street, London and the Guild was successful at selling its creations to a very wealthy clientele, including the King and Queen. The Guild was impacted by the First World War and began to produce items in support of the conflict. By the early 1920s tastes were changing and the Guild was closed.Condition Report: The silver plated tumbler cup is not included in the weighable silver. Tumbler cup approx. weight 3ozt

An early George I silver punch bowl. Robert Timbrell & Joseph Bell I, London, 1714. Designed with two rows of fluted bands to the circular body and raised on a fluted, circular foot, the cartouches with chased scale borders within scroll frames, one engraved with arms, possibly a variant of Enys impaling Nicholas (of Lazy Hill, Dublin), the other vacant, the underside scratch engraved with the initials E over IE, 1732 and the scratch weight 34=12, 25.2cm dia., 15cm high, approx. weight 34.1oztFootnotes:  Arms: on a fess embattled 3 cinquefoils between and within 3 birds all within a bordure IMPALING on a chevron a crescent between and within 3 cross crosslets fitchy.  Families: possibly a variant of Enys (with a bordure) IMPALING Nicholas (of Lazy Hill, Dublin). Some general surface scratching, nicking and minor pitting noted. Heavier nicking and scratching to base inside the bowl.  A ding to the lobed lower section of the body. Some other small dings and bruising noted to body and foot. Some dark marks and tarnish noted. Foot pushing in slightly and a small split beginning to form in one area where it has pushed in. Both cartouches look to have been applied with a layer/patch of silver over the original cartouches - some solder visible at edges. Possible erasure to the vacant cartouche. Engraved coat of arms to other cartouche is crisp (later). Some solder above the engraved cartouche which obscures some of the decoration. Hallmarks to underside of foot are clear. Three Georgian silver cream jugs. Various dates and makers. The group comprising: a George III example, London, 1799, possibly John Merry (maker mark IM), with scrolling handle, engraved with garlands bordering a cartouche and with decorative banding to rim, 11cm high (inc. handle); a George IV example, London, 1820, maker's mark rubbed, with reeded banding to body and raised on four ball feet, 8.7cm high (inc. handle); and a third example, London, marks rubbed, raised on a circular foot, with scrolling handle and reeded banding to body, 7.5cm high (inc. handle), total weight approx. 10.6ozt (3)Condition Report: The first cream jug of the catalogue description with one small dent near the footrim. The underside is dented on one area: this doesn't affect the balance of the piece. Scratches and minor nicks to underside. The engraving in good overall condition. The maker's mark is slightly rubbed off while the other marks are clear. The second cream jug with minor dings to the body. Minor signs of tarnishing and some general wear, including to the ball feet. Small scratches to handle. Marks slightly rubbed off. The third jug with general wear and minor signs of tarnishing. One dent in one area of the upper section of the reeded banding. Other minor dings and scratches to the body. Marks rubbed off.

A pair of George III silver candle snuffers. Wilkes Booth, London, 1791. Designed with openwork scissor handles and sprung action, the box engraved with the initials 'ED' within cartouche, 16cm long, approx. weight 2.9ozt  Condition Report: The snuffers are in good condition commensurate with age. Some general surface scratching, minor pitting and nicking noted. A couple of deeper nicks/pits to feet. Some wear to the box at high points commensurate with age. A small split noted to outer (upper) edge of box. Small split forming (or box simply lifting slightly) at base by pointed ends of snuffers.  Sprung mechanism works well. Hallmarks clear. Handles do not meet but this may be as per the original design. Overall a nice pair of snuffers in good condition commensurate with age.
