A late 19th century Bohemian ruby glass scent bottle - octagonal with a frilled rim and barbed girdle to the body, on an octagonal base, painted with fruiting vines and trefoils in silver and gilt, 12cm. high, lacks stopper; together with a Caithness Cinderella paperweight; and a clear facet-cut globe paperweight. A post-War M.B.E. group of four awarded to Warrant Officer Class II Margaret Sutherland, Women’s Royal Army Corps The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Military) Member’s 2nd type, lady’s shoulder badge, silver; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Army L.S. & G.C., E.II.R., 1st issue, Regular Army (W/24807 W.O.Cl.2. M. Sutherland. M.B.E. W.R.A.C.) good very fine (4) £160-£200 --- M.B.E. London Gazette 5 June 1952. Margaret Sutherland was awarded the M.B.E. whilst serving in the Military Secretary’s Department of the War Office and Ministry of Defence. The Scotsman newspaper of 25 July 1952 further notes that she was a resident of Caithness and received her decoration from the hand of the Queen at an investiture held in the gold State ballroom of Buckingham Palace.
A Caithness Harlequin paperweight and two others, the former probably by Paul Ysart, the scrambled coloured ground set with nine bubble stabs, set with 'CG' cane, 7.5cm diameter; a spaced millefiori weight on a diced latticino ground, 7cm diameter and a smaller weight with closely packed daisy-like blooms, 6cm.

A George III Irish Silver Wine-Funnel and Stand, by William Thompson, Dublin, 1796 oval and with reeded rim, with shaped clip, the funnel and stand each engraved with the badge of the Caithness Legion within thistlesthe funnel 14.5cm high, the stand 12.2cm wide, total weight 6oz 1dwt, 189gr (2)The Caithness Legion were founded by Sir Benjamin Dunbar in 1794. While originating in Caithness, the legion was sent to Ireland where they remained until 1802 and presumably they commissioned the present funnel while there. For a table-spoon by James Erskine of Aberdeen, circa 1800, also engraved with the badge of the Caithness Legion see lot 2225.The funnel and stand each fully marked. There is some wear to the marks but each is in general legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The surface is somewhat bright.

A 20th Century Venetian glass dish, of square section decorated internally with alternating ribbon and latticinio canes in white, pink and yellow with bronze aventurine inclusions, width 15cm, together with a small octagonal dish formed entirely by millefiori canes in pink, blue and green, also two miniature vases with vertical stripe decoration and a Caithness millefiori pin badge with signature thistle cane, boxed. A later 20th Century Caithness glass paperweight, designed by Colin Terris in the Night and Day pattern, of domed form, internally decorated with a large pink and white stylised flower above a mottled amber ground and cased in clear crystal, acid mark to base, numbered 22/250, diameter 7.5cm, together with four other similar Caithness paperweights in patterns Festive Rose, Red Poppy, Madrigal and Pink Rose Royal Mint, all signed with marks. A late 20th Century Caithness glass paperweight, designed by Colin Terris in the Aquamarine pattern, internally decorated with a central stylised blue flower with a large and a series of smaller controlled air bubbles, cased in mottled green over clear and facet cut to the top and sides, acid mark and numbered 153/350, diameter 8cm, together with four similar Caithness paperweights all internally decorated with stylised flowers, patterns include Amore, Garden Orchard. A later 20th Contemporary Caithness large glass paperweight, designed by Alastair Macintosh in the Biosphere pattern, of domed form internally decorated with a mottled deep amber abstract form over a mottled blue and green ground all cased in clear, acid mark to the base, numbered 240/500, diameter 9.5cm, together with four similar Caithness paperweights all internally decorated with abstract forms, patterns include Revelation, Flight, Cauldron and Moonflower, all with marks to bases.
