Original vintage music advertising poster (yellow version) for a concert by Buffalo Springfield at the Avalon Ballroom in 1966. Supporting acts featured The Daily Flash and Congress of Wonders. The event was organised by Family Dog Productions. The Avalon Ballroom was a music venue in the Polk Gulch neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The space operated from 1966 to 1969, at the height of the counterculture movement. Buffalo Springfield was a Canadian-American rock band active from 1966 to 1968 whose most prominent members were Stephen Stills, Neil Young, and Richie Furay. The group released three albums and several singles, including "For What It's Worth". The band combined elements of folk and country music with British invasion and psychedelic-rock influences, and, along with the Byrds, were part of the early development of folk-rock. With a name taken from a brand of steamroller, Buffalo Springfield formed in Los Angeles in 1966 with Stills (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Dewey Martin (drums, vocals), Bruce Palmer (electric bass), Furay (guitar, vocals), and Young (guitar, harmonica, piano, vocals). The band signed to Atlantic Records in 1966 and released their debut single "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing", which became a hit in Los Angeles. The following January, the group released the protest song "For What It's Worth", for which they are now best known. Their second album, Buffalo Springfield Again, marked their progression to psychedelia and hard rock. After various drug-related arrests and line-up changes, the group broke up in 1968. Stephen Stills went on to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash with David Crosby of the Byrds and Graham Nash of the Hollies. Neil Young launched his solo career and later joined Stills in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in 1969. Furay, along with Jim Messina, went on to form the country-rock band Poco. Buffalo Springfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Condition: Very good condition, minor fold in top left corner. Year of printing: 1966, country of printing: USA, designer: Ned Lamont, dimensions (cm): 51x36.

WW2 Distinguished Flying Medal awarded to Flight Sergeant (later Pilot Officer) Albert William John Hazell (known as 'Jack') 1179652 together with various related ephemera and photos. AWJ Hazell (born March 1915) enlisted as an Aircraftman 2nd class on 31st of August 1940, and was promoted throughout the war. He was a known Spitfire and Beaufighter pilot, seeing action as part of 254 Sqn and 236 Sqn and as part of Coastal Command (within the attached collection are original newspaper articles and pictures showing F/Sgt Hazell's attack on a German shipping convoy off the Dutch Coast). Letters from F/Sgt Hazell dated 1943 to his parents describe some of his operations and also his pride and being awarded the DFM (in one letter he jokingly describes his DFM recommendation as probably being 'for good attendance over enemy convoys!'). Hazell was killed on active service while flight testing a Mosquito serial number MM 647 on 5th May 1944 near Alconbury. Records state that he carried out a series of very steep turns which over stressed the wooden aircraft at which point it crashed to the ground and immediately caught fire. The air officer commanding stated in his report that the pilot carried out manoeuvres that were not necessary for the relevant air test. AWJ Hazell was local to the Gloucestershire area and is buried in Gloucester Old Cemetery. His other awards were the War Medal, 1939-1945 Star and the Atlantic Star, which were distributed amongst his surviving family. Provenance - Consigned by the daughter of AWJ Hazell

There is also a copy of 'This Imperial Theme HMS Gambia Commission 1952-54', photographs of HMS Gambia and HMS Sussex and copies of records and research.*Notes - At the start of WWII Lt Cmdr Grace had just been appointed to HMS Varnoc as an A/S Lt. HMS Varnoc was a British Vclass destroyer with a complement of 70 officers and men. In June 1940 HMS Varnoc participated in the evacuation of British Troops from Norway and St Nazaire, France. Convoy patrols in the Atlantic followed, culminating in an action on 15th Match 1941 which will be long remembered in Naval history. On that day, HMS Varnoc sank two German submarines U99 and U100 which were commanded by two of the Kriegsmarines top U-boat Captains, Joachin Schepke and Otto Kretschmer. Details of these two actions are as described by Lt. Cmdr Walter Edney from 'Recollections of WWII'- 'After a little more than a mile, the silhouette of a U boat could be seen on the surface, so without hesitation our Captain gave the order to Stand by to Ram. This we did in no uncertain manner, at full speed, hitting the U-boat amidships and toppling her over. It bought Varnoc to a sudden standstill, embedded in the U-boat which was only cleared by putting both engines full astern. The U-boat rose high in the air and sank, the Captain still on the bridge wearing his white cap but badly injured, went down with her. It subsequently transpired that the U-boat we had sunk was U100, Captained by a Lieut Capt Schwepke, a U-boat ace who had sunk many thousands of tons of British shipping. After a short while, a U-boat surfaced just astern of us, so close that it was necessary to move out of the way fairly quickly for fear of being torpedoed or fired upon. It was not to be. In fact both Walker and Varnoc opened a cross fire at the U-boat. It was clear that she was badly damaged and the crew would have to surrender. The U-boat flashed a message to Walker to the effect that she was sinking. The bow of the boat subsequently rose in the air and she slithered down to her grave. This was U-boat U99, captained by Lt Cmdr Kretschmen, the unchallenged ace of the German U-boat fleet after Prien, who had been sunk with his U-boat a few days before by HMS Wolverine.HMS Varnoc was commanded by Lt Cmdr JGW Deneys, who was subsequently awarded The Distinguished Service Order for these actions'.*Biography - On 3/11/1942 Lt Grace was appointed to HMS Quail. He took part in the Salerno landings during September 1943. On 15th November, HMS Quail, whilst on patrol in the Adriatic, struck a mine and was beached the following day. 1944 found Lt Grace serving on HMS Diomede, a boys training ship at Devonport. He was back to sea in Jan 1945 serving on a battle class destroyer, HMS Camperdown. Promoted to LT Cmdr in 1948 he saw service on HMS Gambia between 1952 and 1954.

Original vintage music advertising poster for a concert by Buffalo Springfield at the Avalon Ballroom in 1966. Furay, along with Jim Messina, went on to form the country-rock band Poco.[4] Buffalo Springfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Excellent condition. Country: USA, year of printing: 1966, designer: Ned Lamont, size (cm): 51x36
