ATTRIBUTED TO THE ZOHIKO COMPANY A Black and Gold-Lacquer Rectangular Box and Cover with Matching Tray Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century The exterior of the box decorated in gold hiramaki-e with a sparrow descending on abundant ears of rice, the inside of the lid with the sun setting or rising, the inside of the box lacquered in mura-nashiji, the tray with a continuation of the same design with a pair of sparrows, unsigned; with a wood tomobako storage box inscribed outside the lid Mizuho maki-e bontsuki tabako bako (Maki-e tobacco box with a design of fresh ears of rice with a tray), signed inside the lid Heian Zohiko with a seal Zohiko. The box: 5.2cm x 13.1cm x 11.2cm (2in x 5 1/8in x 4 7/16in); the tray: 25cm x 20.5cm (9 7/8in x 8 1/16in). (4).
