ZOHIKO COMPANY OF KYOTO Three Gold-Lacquer Trays Taisho (1912-1926) or Showa (1926-1989) era, 20th century Comprising a large rounded rectangular tray decorated in gold, silver and red takamaki-e with a ho-o (phoenix) in flight above clumps of kiri (paulownia), 7cm x 40.5cm x 60.5cm (2¾in x 15 15/16in x 15 15/16in)); a pair of lobed square trays, each decorated in gold hiramaki-e and e-nashiji, one with an uguisu (bush warbler) perched on a flowering prunus branch, the other depicting a kawasemi (kingfisher) flying over kohone (Asian water-lily) and igusa (soft rush), each tray: 3.5cm x 25.2cm x 25.2cm (1 3/8in x 9 7/8in x 9 7/8in)); each signed on the base with the oval seal of the Zohiko Company.
