A WWII ERA IMPERIAL JAPANESE 'GOOD LUCK' FLAG, 'Yosegaki Hinomaru' measuring approximately 120cm x 90cm, the flag is commonly known as the Circle of The Sun design and this example has many separate items of Japanese writing on it, this could be from family members wishing the recipient good luck on his service, usually these small messages radiated outwards from the Sun, but not in this example, these flags were taken off to War by their owners and in lots of cases worn under their uniforms, as if granting them 'Safekeeping in Battle' it was also common, for these flags to be taken from the bodies of Dead Soliders as a macabre keepsake/souvenier of the conflict, this flag has the faint remains of details of the possible soldier who liberated the flag as follows, Pte K.....'A' Coy, battery, Welch Regiment, Kalaw SSS Burma .... Possibly this solider was part of the 2nd Btn who saw action against the Japanese there
