HERMANN BACHMANN (1922 Halle - 1995 Karlsruhe) MohnfeldÖl auf Leinwand. 1977/78.120,5 x 160,3 cm.Verso unten rechts mit Pinsel in Schwarz signiert "Bachmann" und datiert.Provenienz: Privatsammlung NorddeutschlandHermann Bachmann war ein wichtiger Vertreter der Halleschen Schule und bekannt für seine subtile Grautonmalerei. Zwischen 1948 und 1952 entstand eine Serie von etwa 20 Mohnbildern, die er in späteren Jahren sporadisch wieder aufgriff. Die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit dem Motiv des Mohns führt auf seine persönlichen Erlebnisse im Zweiten Weltkrieg zurück. Mit nur 19 Jahren wurde er in den Feldzug gegen die Sowjetunion eingezogen, wo er oftmals in weitläufigen Mohnfeldern Schutz suchen musste. Sein ebenfalls in Grautönen gehaltenes Gemälde „Mohn vor der Reife“ von 1950-52, welches erstmals 1953 in der Kunstausstellung der Moritzburg zu sehen war, wurde aufs heftigste kritisiert und brachte ihm starke Formalismus Vorwürfe ein. Nach einer vehementen Hetzkampagne der SED sah er sich gezwungen, Halle zu verlassen und nach West-Berlin zu gehen. Zerrissen zwischen Ost und West, Lebenswillen und Todesangst, vereint sich in unserem Gemälde die biographische Bedeutung des Mohns mit dem Bild einer erdrückend hochaufragenden Mauer.
