Aperture and focusing rings are smooth and operate as intended. Aperture blades have no oil or buildup. Front lens element has filter attached, which can be removed with ease. Both filter and front lens element have very minor dust that would not affect optical performance. Some minor dirt to the exterior metal of the lens, lettering is clear and sharp. Red bayonet alignment button is missing. Front and rear lens caps working as intended. Tele-Elmarit 90mm lens: Some brassing and rubbing to the exterior metal of the lens especially on the focus ring and aperture ring. Aperture and focus rings operating smoothly and as intended. Some buildup of dirt to the lens mount. Some minor dirt to the front element of the lens. Some minor oil on the aperture blades. Krauss Tessar Zeiss f/4.5 105mm lens, black, serial no. 157943, body, VG, motor appears to run, lens, G-VG, some internal haze and fungus, together with an additional magazine, viewfinder attachment and original maker's leather casesProvenance: From the collection of Cliff Somers; a cameraman from the North West whose career is summarised in this article, taken from the British Universities Film and Video Council. The camera was used by Mr Somers across his long tenure as a cameraman, one known occasion was for the boxing match between Jackie Brown and Johnny King for the British Bantamweight title, hosted at the Belle Vue in Manchester on the 31st May 1937. In the book 'The Picture House', both Gerald and Cliff Somers are pictured filming the fighters sparring, with Cliff using the same Newman & Sinclair camera for sale in this lot. Another notable highlight of Cliff Somers' career was in 1958, as part of the BBC News crew sent to Coniston Water to film Donald Campbell's fatal attempt to break the world speed record in 'Bluebird', albeit with a different camera.

Torpedosucher-Vorläufer 1930-31Leitz, Wetzlar. Die bislang früheste Form des Torpedosuchers für eine Leica - noch ohne Bildbegrenzungen, stattdessen zwei diagonale Linien als Zielkreuz sowie mit einem aufsteckbaren 90°-Winkelsucher, der das sonst seitenverkehrte Bild nun seitenrichtig zeigt. Zusammen in roter Original-Schachtel mit goldfarbener Prägung "Fernrohrsucher". Nicht in James L. Lager, Volume III erwähnt. Drei Raritäten in einem: die unbekannte frühe Version des Suchers, der dazugehörige völlig unbekannte Aufstecksucher für seitenrichtiges Sehen und die völlig unbekannte Benennung auf der roten Schachtel. Kein weiteres Exemplar bekannt und alles ist hervorragend erhalten. - Vermutlich war der Name Fernrohrsucher kaufmännisch ein Mißerfolg und wurde als Versuch vom Markt zurückgezogen. Der danach gewählte Name, die eingeführten Verbesserungen und das Fortlassen des die Seitenrichtigkeit betonenden Zusatzsuchers schlugen besser an - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes Torpedo. - Eine einmalige Rarität höchsten Grades. The name "Fernrohrsucher" (direct-vision optical viewfinder) was presumably not a commercial success and quickly withdrawn from the market. The later name, the improvements introduced and the omission of the additional viewfinder evidently struck a better chord with photographers. - The only example of this model that we know of.
