Aviation: An HFL (Hypersonic flying Laboratory) or |Kholod| HFL Kholod, 1991, a hypersonic flying laboratory titanium and stainless steel All the engines have been disabled or removed so this is a static display of original components. The fuel tanks have also been cleaned so no traces of fuel remain. This particular piece was never flown which is why it is in such good condition. 11.9m.; 39 feet long Please note this Lot requires dismantling please contact us prior to the auction to discuss and arrange shipping. One of the six experimental scramjets developed by C.I.A.M. (Central Institiute for Aviation Motors) and N.A.S.A. (National Aeronautics and space Administration). In development since the 1970~s the first flight of the HFL was in 2001 and it held the air speed record for an unmanned vehicle for a decade achieving a speed of Mach 6.47 or nearly 5,000mph. Scramjets are widely seen as the future of high speed flight and are the evolution of ramjets the preceding sc standing for supersonic combustion. In order for a scramjet to start working the vehicle has to be travelling at Mach 5 or more. To achieve this, the HFL was based on a Soviet SA5 missile with the addition of four solid fuel booster rockets, the scramjet being attached to the nose. The solid fuel boosters fired first for four seconds before separating from the main body, the liquid fuel SA5 then continued for another 40 seconds approximately by which time a sufficient speed for the scramjet to work had been achieved. The scramjet burnt 17kg of hydrogen in 27.5 seconds and achieved a speed of Mach 3.6. The French aerospace research establishment (ONERA) became involved and a second flight was carried out in 1992 for Sary Shagan, Kazakhstan but it was not until NASA became involved in 1994 that the vehicle reached its potential of Mach 6.41-6.47 after a successful flight lasting 77 seconds, setting a record for the running of a scramjet. NASA carried on the development programme producing the X-43A which took the speed record from the Kholod.

Chassis Number : ZDMH200AAWB000009 Odometer reading : 5 km Estimate : £55,000 - £65,000 The 1999 Ducati 996SPS is one of the celebrated line of homologation specials produced by Ducati with the sole intention of winning the World Superbike Championship, a feat they have managed seventeen times as manufacturer, whilst also winning fourteen rider's titles. Since its inception in 1988, the World Superbike Championship required bikes to be series produced to be eligible with a minimum production run of 1,000 being obligatory. Ducati, however, on account of the company's small size when compared with the big four Japanese manufacturers, gained special dispensation to produce only 200 examples of their racing machines. This enabled Ducati to constantly update their homologation specials, establishing the legacy of spectacular V-twins that bore only a passing resemblance to the road bikes they were supposed to be closely related to. The first of these was the 1995 916SP which retained the road bike's 916cc capacity and is the only 'SP' or 'R' model that does not feature a numbered headstock badge. The 916SP was followed in 1996 by the 916SPS, (Sport Production Special) which was actually of 996cc, due to the bore being increased from 94mm to 98mm with the stroke remaining at 66mm. A new, lighter crankshaft came with titanium con rods; the crankcases and cylinder barrels were strengthened and bigger valves and larger bore exhaust system completed the list of changes. 1997 was a poor season for Ducati which led to the introduction of the 916 'Foggy Rep' for 1998 with a new frame to accommodate the modified airbox needed to release more power from the engine. The World Superbike title was returned to Bologna in 1998, to rider Carl Fogarty, who then won the rider's title a record fourth time the following year. The 1999 bike was called the 996, finally admitting its true engine capacity. The engine, the classic Ducati layout of a 90 degree V-twin, featured fuel injection, water cooling and four valves per cylinder, operated desmodromically like all classic Ducatis. Lighter and stronger than the 916SPS engine, the 996SPS has a power output in excess of 123bhp propelling it to a top speed of over 160mph. The transmission has six speeds and the tubular steel trellis chassis with adjustable steering head, uses a Showa upside-down front fork with an Ohlins adjustable monoshock at the rear, utilising a progressive cantilever linkage. Special five spoke wheels complete the package. The 996SPS offered here is a pre-production bike, numbered 000 and was Ducati's show bike. It is effectively brand new and unused with only five kilometres recorded on the odometer, all of which have been at walking pace while being wheeled around in and out of shows. It has never been ridden. Owing to Euro Two regulations, the Ducati has been registered in Holland and has a NOVA certificate to permit an application for UK registration. The homologation special Ducatis are tipped to be the Brough Superiors of the future. One was exhibited at The Guggenheim Museum in New York in recognition of its status as a work of art. The sale of this pre-production version represents a unique opportunity to acquire such an undoubted collector's item and what will surely be a sound investment.

Registration : TBA Chassis Number : WBSBR920X0PM94044 Engine Number : 61042987 Odometer reading : 16,900 miles Estimate : £16,000 - £19,000 The BMW E46 M3 was first introduced in October 2000 and appeared worldwide with the new 3.2 litre S54 M-tuned engine. At the time of the car's introduction, this Euro spec engine had the highest specific output naturally aspirated of any engine ever made by BMW (except in the McLaren F1), producing 338hp. It was only available in coupé and convertible bodies as the saloon version had been dropped. The E46 M3 was offered with a standard 6-speed Getrag gearbox with an electrohydraulically actuated clutch (no clutch pedal), but optionally came with an SMG drivelogic gearbox (also known as the SMG II). Shifts are made via the SMG gear knob or the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The engine had a redline of 8,000 rpm. As with most M engines, the S54 again had 6 independent throttle bodies and this time electronically operated throttles (drive-by-wire throttle with no cable). This 'fully loaded' BMW M3 Convertible has only covered 16,900 miles from new. Supplied by BMW Heathrow, it came with over £7,000 of options including rear side air bags, Navigation system, Bluetooth telephone, Harman Kardon Hi-Fi, M double spoke wheels, wind deflector and hard top to name but a few of the items. Finished in Titanium silver with black nappa leather interior, this excellent example cost over £50,000 when new and is supplied with a V5C registration document, a current MoT test certificate, the hand book pack and a file which contains a number of MoT certificates which verifies the mileage on the odometer. This is an opportunity to purchase an excellent, low mileage example of a sought after M series BMW. ï»¿

Chassis Number : ZFFKZ66B000168684 Engine Number : 151175 Odometer reading : 33,000 km Estimate : £180,000 - £200,000 Ferrari said, upon release, that the Scuderia Spider 16M is the highest performance Spider that it had ever made. Like the fixedhead F430 Scuderia, this car also incorporates what Ferrari calls 'F1-derived' technology. With a limited edition 499-unit production run, the '16M moniker' refers to Ferrari's 16 F1 Constructors World Championships- the latest of which was achieved in 2008. Although the 16M is derived from its enclosed predecessor, Ferrari had taken the Scuderia concept even further. Despite the additional body strengthening, the 16M is 80kg lighter, tipping the scales at an admirable 1340kg. Much of this has been achieved by a major overhaul of the double-wishbone suspension as well as new dampers and a new steering box, even gaining titanium springs and wheel bolts, a measure of the 16M's extreme engineering brief. Powered by the same 503bhp version of Ferrari's 4.3 litre, V8 found in the coupé, the 16M had undergone an extra tweak in the form of redesigned pistons which also allow for a higher compression ratio offering 80% of the engine's torque on tap from 3,000rpm. The engine drives the F1-SuperFast2 six-speed transmission, which can execute shifts in a claimed 60 milliseconds via the steering wheel paddles. Helping keep the 16M on the road is the F1-Trac traction control system which allows the driver to select five basic 'characters' for the 16M from wet conditions, through good-road holding and track-driving. The car's electronic safety net can, though, be progressively disabled with the CT setting allowing oversteer at maximum power and CST taking away everything but the E-Diff's efforts.   Capable of being pleasantly civilised and surprisingly aggressive, this 16M Scuderia, presented in Ferrari White with deep red Suede trim, was purchased, or rather, was allowed to be purchased by a wealthy eastern European business man in 2009 from Karner & Grossegger Automobile Ferrari in Austria. Initially cared for by Warm UP KFT Ferrari in Budapest, the initial owner transferred ownership to his son in 2011 before selling the vehicle on to a prominent business contact of the family in Spain where Guarnieri Marbella and C.DE Salamanca S.A Ferrari have since serviced and cared for the car. Offered with UK registration, this lefthand drive example is offered complete with all handbooks and relevant documents and, by our estimations, is a genuine example of a fast appreciating limited-edition Ferrari, a motorcar that Ferrari were rightly very proud of and, with only 499 ever produced many of which will never come to market, this is a rare opportunity to own a slice of Maranello's finest.
