A good quality example of mahogany with brass corners and mounts. The interior is plain and box is accompanied by a Brahma style padlock. Good rich colour to the timber ... Selection of family letters including a small number addressed to John Simpson. Captain John Simpson joined the Royal Navy as a Gentleman Volunteer. He gained his Lieutenant rank in 1811 and was assigned to the schooner HMS Bream. He remained with the RN after the end of the Napoleonic War and appointed Lt & Commander HMS Weazle on the 9th July 1838 and remained with her until July 1840 when he was promoted to Commander and given command of HMS Rolla. On leaving her in 1846 he was promoted Captain and died in 1849 Payment by Bank Transfer ONLY
