Royal Navy Archive of Captain John Simpson Royal Navy Service 1803-1846 items are part of a family archive and are believed to have belonged to Captain John Simpson, whose Naval career spanned from 1803 to 1846. 1838 Royal Naval Commission to the appointment of Lieutenant and Commander of the Brig Sloop HMS Weazle of 10 guns. Now framed ... Royal Naval 1827 pattern Officer's sword. This with plain piped back blade with quill point. The hilt with folding guard, shagreen grip and lion head pommel.  Scabbard absent.  Rust spots to the blade ... Telescope, a day & night example by Jackson of Plymouth. A one draw brass and mahogany example with some age wear to the brass work ... Officer's Campaign box. A good quality example of mahogany with brass corners and mounts. The interior is plain and box is accompanied by a Brahma style padlock. Good rich colour to the timber ... Selection of family letters including a small number addressed to John Simpson. Captain John Simpson joined the Royal Navy as a Gentleman Volunteer. He gained his Lieutenant rank in 1811 and was assigned to the schooner HMS Bream. He remained with the RN after the end of the Napoleonic War and appointed Lt & Commander HMS Weazle on the 9th July 1838 and remained with her until July 1840 when he was promoted to Commander and given command of HMS Rolla. On leaving her in 1846 he was promoted Captain and died in 1849 Payment by Bank Transfer ONLY
