Adams, George Gammon (British, 1821-1898); b. Staines, and Baily, Edward Hodges (British, 1788-1867); b. Bristol ENGLAND, Thomas Lawrence, 1860, a copper medal by G.G. Adams after E.H. Baily for the Art Union of London, bust left, rev. standing figure of the Duke of Wellington in cape and military uniform, holding a telescope, 56mm, 92.86g (Beaulah 12; Eimer 185; BHM 2676; E 1539; cf. Noonans 271, 981). Extremely fine, attractive patina £100-£150 --- Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), portrait painter, fourth president of the Royal Academy, 1820-30, painted the Duke of Wellington (1769-1852) eight times in a 15-year period. The reverse of the medal is taken from the picture painted by Lawrence in 1825 for Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850), acquired by Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, in 1909 at the sale of Peel’s effects. His fellow Bristol-born artist and Academician, Edward Hodges Baily, is not known to have sculpted a portrait of Lawrence during the latter’s lifetime, but a marble bust of him executed in 1830 is held by the National Portrait Gallery
HENRY BLUNT (1806-1853) A collection of watercolours and drawings depicting views in North Wales, the North of England, and Scotland, many in wash with pencil, the majority dateable to circa 1830-1845, mostly landscapes, subjects include Dumfries ,Barmouth Sands, Rhos y Gwaliau ; Loch Lomond; Glencoe;; Llandudno; Kelso, Harlech Castle; Goat Fell from Brodrick Bay, Isle of Arran, many inscribed, eighteen signed, varying sizes, 15 x 21 in and smaller, all unframed, all contained in a blue folio box. (approx 50)Henry Blunt moved to Shrewsbury from London in 1809 He spent the rest of his life based in the town where he worked as a chemist.He was also a keen astronomer and watercolour artist. In 1849 he constructed a model of the moon's surface based on observations made with a reflecting telescope from his home in Shrewsbury. The model was later exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851. His work is represented in the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, the British Museum and Eton College.
