The book contains the first line by line analysis of Matthieson's Edinburgh poem "The Goff" of 1742, not only casting new light on the play but also revealing it as an Enlightenment parable. The 4 wood engravings are by Kathleen Lindsley and an end pocket has a facsimile of this rare and valuable poem - appears unread hence (VG). Illus.
