Military Type MBE Group of Seven Awarded to Flight Lieutenant Albert Tolfrey Royal Air Force of 617 Dambuster Squadron Interest, the medal group consists of Military type MBE, Indian General Service medal with clasp North West Frontier 1930-31 “353358 CPL A TOLFREY RAF", 1939-45 star, Africa star, Defence medal, 1939-45 war medal with MID oak leaf and Royal Air Force long service good conduct medal “W/O A TOLFREY (353358) RAF". The medals have been court mounted. Accompanying the grouping is a large number of original photographs taken during his service with the RAF, these include some photographs of the original Dambusters including Dave Shannon DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, Joe McCarthy DSO DFC and Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC OM DSO & 2 Bars DFC. Various other images also of groups of men, aircraft and large bombs etc. One of the most interesting items in the grouping is his log of the armaments loaded onto the aircraft for operations carried out by 617 squadron and 627 squadron from June 1944 to the end of the war. This includes the attack on the Tirpitz on 15th September 1944 and the attacks on the U-Boat pens etc. Other items of paperwork include his MID certificate and forwarding slip for the award of the MBE, plus other items. It is more than likely that Tolfrey served and possibly armed the planes with the bouncing bombs for the Dambusters raid, however we are unable to confirm this. This grouping is being sold by the family of Flight Lieutenant Tolfrey.

Paper is crinkling under the glass. Original exhibition label to the backboard. The paper is cockled. Some of the black paint is stuck to the glass. The support would need sorting first by a paper conservator and the painting needs a bigger slip. This should not be a problem and could probably be sorted in a day's work by a restorer.
