Only about twenty examples of this proprietary design were ever manufactured with the last first generation triple-bridge tourbillon made in 1911.Fast forward over half a century and in 1981 Girard-Perregaux re-introduced the movement for a Limited Edition of twenty pocket watches. Ten years later, to celebrate their 200th anniversary, the manufacture again launched the movement but this time housed in a wristwatch. In order to fit, Girard Perregaux miniaturized the movement and re-positioned the triple bridge tourbillon from the back of the watch to the front. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

George came out of it a game changer, elder statesman, mentor to many influential watch producers and a national treasure.Considered as one of the greatest watchmakers of the 20th Century, George struggled for more than two decades to persuade many of the Swiss watch brands that his revolutionary Co-Axial escapement – designed to run unaffected by the deterioration of its lubricant – was possibly the greatest advance in horology since Thomas Mudge invented the lever escapement over 250 years ago. Eventually, he was proved correct and Omega adopted the Co-Axial design introducing it into select models at the Basel Fair in 1999. To celebrate this monumental deal, George, along with his apprentice Roger Smith, set about creating the Millennium wristwatch series. The Millennium was created over a period of 3 years with delivery made in 1999 ahead of the new millennium. This was the first collaboration between George and Roger and each watch was painstakingly hand-finished by the two of them in what is considered as an 'English style'. With just 48 examples made in yellow gold it is difficult to overestimate just how important these watches are especially when considering the current example was the 9th watch created by George in the series. To take horology forward by a greater step than anyone else has done since Thomas Mudge in 1755 is quite simply phenomenal. At a time when the stock of independent makers seems to be sky rocketing, the current lot offers a fantastic opportunity to own a significant part of contemporary watchmaking history. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

The current lot is a great example of this having been owned by a professional deep sea saturation diver who wore it around the world in places such as Russia, India, Africa and Bermuda. Used extensively as a working watch in the North Sea oilfields, this watch along with its owner would dive to depths of up to 200 metres and survived periods of up to a month at a time confined in pressurised saturation diving chambers. These chambers were filled will heliox gas which would enable the men to launch and dive in a diving bell to the sea floor. One of the design features that made the Sea Dweller such a vital piece of equipment was how it handled during decompression post dive. Decompression can take up to 5 days and to avoid the watch from getting damaged Rolex designed the Sea Dweller 2000 to be the first production watch to employ a gas-escape valve on the band of the case. This one way valve automatically releases built up gas from inside the case when the diver rises from the deep sea environment without which the watch would be in danger of popping the seals. Interestingly, the plexi glass covering the dial did not feature the usual cyclops magnifying the date window as it adds a pressure point which would cause a weakness. The 'Double-Red' Sea-Dweller reference 1665 appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1972 until 1975. The nickname refers to the two red printed lines on the dial setting it apart from the Single Red and Great White versions of the same model. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
