Quaker Interest: Early 19th Century Large Quilt TOP, seemingly unused, worked from chintz cotton fabrics in mainly autumnal colours, with a central medallion of cream cotton, appliquéd with motifs of hearts, flowers and crowns, bordered by a multitude of triangles of varying sizes and prints, 260cm by 234cmSome scattered damage mainly to brown fabrics which have either faded or gone into holes, some cream squares with small designs have holes, the cover has been stored for generations and is generally grubby, from a Quaker family.
Mid-19th Century Floral Chintz Quilt, worked in stripes of compatible fabrics in pale greens, creams and reds, backed with a cream cotton printed with black spots, no padding, 240cm by 255cm General storage staining, some deeper marking to one corner on reverse. Central panel on front bears stamped numbers and 'London' which appears original.
Circa 1890 Victorian Patchwork Quilt, with central panel of small squares and triangles in various gingham floral and other patterned cottons, bordered by various cut shapes in further fabrics, the outer panels of large varying rectangles, bordered in red and white stylised fabric, backed onto various chintz and other floral fabrics; 220cm by 260cm
18th Century Embroidered and Quilted Bed Cover, worked on two fabrics which alternate in stripes, three sides finished in scallops, the last side straight, decoratively embroidered with carnations, other flowers and foliage in silk and metal threads, on a regular quilted design, the backing is pieced from various fabrics, mainly linens, 160cm by 200cm The background fabric is very well worn in many places, the silk embroidery is generally sound however the metal threads are detached or indeed missing. The rear of the quilt is badly worn and stained.

Early 19th Century Pieced and Appliquéd Quilt, in mainly pastel shades of blue, beige and pink, regular quilting throughout, the central floral panel surrounded by various borders of different widths and inner designs, side borders turned over by approx 392cm (on two sides), backed in cream cotton, 218cm by 236cm Central panel with some wear and exposing stuffing, appliqued flowers also showing signs of wear. Some foxing in places, generally good for age.
Early 19th Century Pieced Quilt, central floral medallion bordered by ever-widening strips of miscellaneous chintz and dress fabrics, strong colours and multiple designs to the varying fabrics, regular quilting throughout, plain cream backing, 236cm by 252cm One brown fabric noticeably fading and wearing in places.
A Late 19th Century Military or Soldier's Quilt, fashioned from wool serge uniform fabric, very bright colours (red, yellow, black and blue), a feature of such quilts made in India at that time usually by servicemen injured in battle, central square block with inner block on the diagonal, containing five circles within which there are two five-pointed stars, further bordered with a chevron border cornered with Union Jacks, the final wide red border featuring three regular large diamonds to each side, small blue squares to each corner and the quilt is bound with blue braid. Reverse side with printed cotton in muted shades of orange and brown, itself in a 'patchwork' print featuring dogs, cats, period dress fabrics, bordering a different 'patchwork' print in reds, dull blues and greens, featuring sailors and naval officers in uniform, on board a ship, courting ladies, overall background colour red featuring strong yellow, black and blue, 250cm by 220cm Provenance: Made by Master Tailor H Cormack during his service in India during late 19th century. Believed to have been serving in Rowalpindi Generally fine condition, very well designed and executed. The fabric has been nibbled here and there, one notable area within the black/cream chevron border, another within one yellow diamond. One three inch tear to both layers at one side. Cotton fabric on reverse rather worn and split on seams.

Early 20th Century double-sided patchwork quilt with central lozenge shaped medallion made up by 2cm x 2cm panels, 220cm x 246cm. Provenance - originally came from Grosmont, Whitby - stitched by Grinkle Park's gamekeeper's wife (Bennison) Condition Report . The patchwork quilt is in very good condition. There are a few stains, but nothing major. No rips or tears.
