Artist: Toana (Toots) EllisTitle: The LighthouseSize: 26 x 27 a 12(h) cmMedium: Baulk, stone & glassToana (Toots) EllisToana Ellis was born in 1986 in Ruan Minor, close to the charming little fishing village of Cadgwith. Her father, Martin Ellis, was a local fisherman, with his picture-postcard boat the “Samantha Rose” and Toana enjoyed many trips to sea with him, developing a love of the ocean and viewing the brilliance of its seascapes with an artist's eye. Retired from fishing, Martin is now an artist, along with Toana's uncle, André Ellis, so creativity runs in the family! Toana first enjoyed her art lessons at school, gaining an A grade at GCSE. After gaining work experience at a local gallery, where she fell in love with glass art, she enrolled in a National Diploma in Art and Design at Truro College. She has also completed a course at Penwith College learning how to do leaded glasswork. Toana has always drawn inspiration from the natural colours, shapes and textures found on the beaches, coves and harbours of her native Cornwall. She hopes to make her career blossom in these same places, giving back to the community what she has gained from it. DISCLAIMER: The Porthleven baulk/harbour defence wood is made (on the whole) of Douglas Fir Pine. The actual date of the wood is unknown, the wood broke on the 5th February 2014 and after that was stored outdoors in the harbour yard. Wood is a natural product that responds to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. You are purchasing a natural product as seen and the Charity the Fishermen's Mission cannot be held responsible for any changes in the wood after the auction on the 18th March 2017.
