Emil Zatopek Czech. 5,000m & 10,000m 1952 Olympic Gold Medallist original signature, black pen, full signature, to the blank front of an envelope, size 6 1/4 by 4 1/2in.; sold with a superb b&w postcard, size 5 3/4 by 4in., depicting Zatopkek running at the 1852 Helsinki Olympic Games and bearing a commemorative 1952 Olympic stamp, postmarked 16th April 1965 and with printed facsimile Zatopek signature, both items in very good condition and would display well together (2) Emil Zátopek (19th September 1922 – 22nd November 2000) was a Czechoslovakian long-distance runner best known for winning three gold medals at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. He won gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m runs, but his final medal came when he decided at the last minute to compete in the first marathon of his life. He was nicknamed the “Czech Locomotive”.

Woolwich Arsenal finished the season in 7th place in the 1906-07 Division One Championship. They also reached the semi-final of the F A Cup (where they lost to Sheffield Wednesday 3-1).

Sorry I couldn't remember the address but you know me. I do*** hope your okay. Regards to everyone and Tommy Thanks for getting me here all for now. Nob Tommie Hamilton came to Manchester from Edinburgh around 1960. He was a keen keep fit fanatic in his early years, always at the gym working out. it was there he met a few of the  Scots who played for Manchester United. He decided to convert the cellar of his house into his own personal gymnasium. Some of Tommie's United pals started using his gym for weight training and he soon became good friends with some of them including Denis Law, Paddy Crerand and Jim Ryan. He helped a number of United players to fitness by introducing them to certain types of weight training. Manchester United that some players were doing something different and enquired into what that was. The club Manchester United got in contact with Tommie to ask about sending more players to him. Nobby Stiles, George Best and many others regularly went to Tommie' gym. Many of the players gifted him their kit which he treasured and remained friends with the players and Manchester United for many years

A Second World War group of 4 medals for service in Western Europe attributed to a Leading Air Craftsman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. 1939-45 Star medal, France & Germany Star medal, Defence medal and War medal 1939-45, medals unnamed as issued and mounted for wearing on a pin back bar. With a matching set of miniature medals also mounted for wearing (later issues). Medals are accompanied by an R.A.F. Service & Release book named to 1402760 LAC DONALD E MARSH R.A.F.V.R., along with a postcard sent to his wife in Blandford, Dorset, entitled ‘My husband or son is an airman serving overseas – what do I do? With a series of questions and answers. Donald Marsh enlisted on 6th June 1941 serving as a Telephone Operator in Western Europe between 30th June 1944 and 16th June 1945. Returning to the UK he was finally discharged a year later on 16th June 1946.

POSTCARD - BRISTOL, SUFFRAGETTE INTEREST A real photographic card, 'Students Revenge on Suffragettes Headquarters, Bristol' [October 1913], numbered '2' to lower right corner, postally unused. Note: The Bristol branch of the Women's Social and Political Union was set up by Annie Kenney, and a shop and office were opened at 37 Queens Road in 1909. They were ransacked by around 300 male students in 1913, who made a bonfire in the street of the literature and furniture they found inside, in revenge for an arson attack at the University's sports pavilion at Combe Dingle, two days earlier, for which the suffragettes were believed to have been responsible. Condition Report : Good condition; album corner marks. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting (where possible) any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
