A 10 bore India pattern Brown Bess flintlock musket, 55” overall, barrel 39” with Tower proofs and stamped “322” at breech, rounded lock with swan neck cock and stamped with crowned “GR” and “Tower” and with ordnance inspector’s mark, walnut fullstock, the butt bearing ordnance storekeeper’s mark (1800?), device over “P.L.D” in circle, and number “32087”, with regulation brass mounts, lower sling swivel only, and replacement ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (light pitting and staining to lock and barrel, the stock has been worm filled). Plate 17

An above average Indian 40 bore flintlock rifle from Sind, 59” overall, the deeply rifled 43¾” damascus barrel having full length slender top rib and slightly flared muzzle, breech and muzzle gold overlaid with floral decorated panels, the English trade lock of late type with rainproof pan, roller on frizzen spring and scroll engraved decoration, fullstocked with 4 narrow silver barrel bands, typical sweeping butt with plain silver mounts and iron trigger guard with traces of silver overlay, and sling swivels. Basically Good Condition (action requires slight attention, replacement sheet brass cover behind breech). Plate 17

Good Working Order and Condition (some pitting around touch hole). Appears to have been assembled at an early date, in the early 19th century, from earlier components. Plate 18

Good Working Order and Clean Condition. A delightful piece. Plate 18

A brass barrelled and brass framed flintlock boxlock blunderbuss pistol with spring bayonet by Gill, c 1785, 12½” overall, integral bell mouth barrel 7” with Tower private proofs, left side with ramrod pipes and horn ramrod, and with 6½” spring bayonet beneath released by a rear trigger housed in the elongated trigger guard, frame engraved with panels of swags containing flower head and “Gill” in script, plain rounded walnut butt with brass grotesque mask butt cap and vacant oval escutcheon. Good Working Order and Condition (bayonet pitted, light rust to steel parts, the butt has traces of old repairs). Plate 18 Note: Gill worked in Birmingham from 1744 to 1800 and had addresses in London at Charing Cross and Strand.

A good rare 20 bore Russian flintlock fowling piece, c 1740, 56” overall, 2 stage barrel 41”, octagonal breech stamped with scimitar mark and engraved with maker’s name in Cyrillic; the lock with enclosed action, slender cock and rectangular pan and frizzen, the plate chiselled with a dog chasing a wild boar in woodland setting; pleasingly patinated halfstock carved in relief with scrolls around trigger guard, barrel tang and on the butt, golden brass mounts, including sideplate chiselled with a hound chasing a horse, large engraved butt plate tang, pierced escutcheon surmounted by a coronet, fluted trigger guard, and engraved fore end cap, with sling swivels and good replacement horn tipped ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition, generally quite crisp for age. Plate 19

A brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by Ketland & Co, c 1790, 31” overall, bell mouth barrel 15½” with octagonal breech bearing London and maker’s proofs, 9” triangular bayonet beneath released by a catch in front of the trigger guard and with ramrod pipes on the left side housing a steel ramrod, the large flat stepped lock with typical Ketland & Co signature in script, the walnut halfstock with carved apron around breech tang and brass mounts. Good Working Order and Condition (slight damage to fore end, the bayonet catch fails to fully engage with the bayonet) Plate 19

Warranted” (Hill St B’ham, 1777-1808) lightly etched with crowned GR cypher, crowned R Arms and supporters, standing officer with sword, trophy, with scrolling and foliage, gilt hilt, the guard slotted with 3 loops each side, into pierced crowned GR cypher and knucklebow, to lion’s head pommel and backstrap, diced pronounced ivory grip (cracked) in its leather scabbard with brass locket and (replaced) chape. Basically GC, retaining approx 20% original gilt (blade some wear and light pitting, scabbard leather AF). Plate 5
